What? Our younger players need 4 years to peak? Well, it's not likely this team will be anything if these guys still need 4 years.
What championship team needed their key players to have 6 or 7 years of NBA experience before they became contenders?
If we are so hell bent on a chip, raptors have to be true contenders in 2 years. Otherwise we don't have any of the right players on the roster *now*.
And so, if we like this team (Barnes, iq, rj...) IMHO we really should be keeping Siakam. Otherwise we will be pining for some trade to acquire a siakam within a few years.
LeBron James won his first MVP in his 7th season and his first title in his 9th season. Most players do not reach superstardom in their 3rd or 4th season. That isn't how it works.
Well LeBron was approaching his peak by year 5. By year 6 he was unquestionably at his peak he was surrounded by trash. And then year 7 he was still surrounded by trash. He won his first chip after he *left* the cavaliers.
So I guess that's how it's supposed to work..?
Michael Jordan won his first chip in year 6. It is extremely unusual for a player to be able to carry a team to a chip in his 4th year. Kobe did it in year 4 but he was paired with Shaq who was in his 7th year, which was also his peak MVP season.
We are in year 3 of Scottie. He is still developing. We won't know how good he really is for at least another 2 years. If he is as special as we hope this team as constructed can compete. An elite superstar can carry a team. If you put peak LeBron on this team instead of Scottie we would be a championship contender right now.
