This was a judo move by the NBA. Had they levied a huge fine as had been suggested ($75K+) it would have provided fuel for keeping the story alive. All the talking heads shows would have reported and commented on it, deepening the NBA's discomfort. A paltry $25K fine kills the story. Pretty savvy play by the league.

Here in Europe, the refs can get suspended for a week even for small mistakes. For bigger blunders, they might get suspended without pay for a month or more. I really don't understand why NBA treats their refs as some irreplaceable talent.

There is a referee association or union. Is that the same in Europe?

Wish that was the same in the EPL. Yes referees can get demoted or given a leave of absence but it rarely happens given how terrible the refereeing is week in, week out.

Knowing the range of fines was 15-25k, I thought he'd get 30-35k in fines based on his statements being more inflammatory than the others. I thought those suggesting 50-100k were being ridiculous though. Coaches don't make THAT much, so to fine them like that would be out of pocket esp when FVV got less than that.

Money well spent though and I'm assuming MLSE will cover for him.
