The delusional one is Masai
When was Masai supposed to trade Siakam?
When Siakam led team to 53 wins and then crapped the bed in the bubble?
When he injured his shoulder?
When they drafted Barnes and everyone assumed Siakam had to be traded..and still hadn’t come back from injury?
When they won 48 games and had ROY and Siakam went All-NBA?
Last year trade deadline when the offers weren’t great and reportedly very similar to this season’s return?
Over the summer for poo poo platter of Hunter, Griffin, draft capital?
Imo with the benefit of hindsight it was after the 2021-2022 season, but that just isn’t how things operate in the NBA. The raptors were trending up and you don’t blow that up.
I don’t think the Sabonis trade is a good comparison. He was on a $18.5m value contract, not a max contract and he was 24, not turning 30.
Go back and read rumours from 2 years ago.
https://hoopshype.com/player/pascal-siakam/page/5/. So the returns could have been Sabonis, which I don’t believe Pacers or Raptors would have done at the time. Hield and Bagley? Something from Portland post CJ trade, but I think they were always set on tanking. Simmons and Claxton from Nets?
I was underwhelmed with the return of Siakam but I don’t think a better return was out there based on realities of bubble performance and return from shoulder injury. Plus there was constant quotes and reports from Siakam 2 years ago he wanted to stay. He was giving donations to TMU for law students.
We’ll have to see if Brown returns anything else but I think the return is likely as good as it would have been. So far we are at 3 firsts….and waiting.
