I like all ideas but think we should wait to Feb 9 to revisit since I expect 2 if not all 3 of BB, GTJ and CB out.
Only way I would keep Gary is to reach out to his Agent and offer 2-3 year deal with $15 mil per year and player options in last year. GTJ can decide the length. If he wants 3 years that is amazing life money on top of his current contract or 2 years if he wants to keep betting on himself and flexibility? If he does not extend I would move.
Now I like our 2nd unit

I don't think GTJ is capable to be a starter... And for a bench player $15M is just too much!
This year he has averaged 12.0 pts, 2.1 reb, 1.5 ast... He is not worth $15M.
We all have different opinions, and that is one thing that makes this forum great.

True but who can catch and shoot on current roster other than him? We need a guy (guys) like that. He's that guy on our current roster. Dick will still need a year or two for catch and shoot with defenders on his face.

$15M nowadays is not that crazy for a bench player if they are capable of playing 24-30mpg

The MLE will be 13M this year. Getting Gary just above that isn't the worst move in the world.

PG - FVV
SG - Norm
SF - Patrick McCaw (he didn't have to play much)
PF - OG
C - Serge
As this shows, since we won the title with OG out for the playoffs, a good NBA bench is really one guard, a wing and a big. You can fill the 9th and 10th spot by accident most of the time or minimums or trading a 2nds if you're a contender for like a Tillman, Torrey Craig or Lonnie Walker guy who can do his job for 10-15 minutes a night without killing you and fits whatever your hole is (a big, a wing and a 3pt shooter) and compliments the main bench guys and starter.
So I'd say we have one promising bench piece in Dick, and we need to come out of the next 3 drafts with a starting wing/guard, a backup guard and a backup big man, which if we draft well (and you include say a lottery protected 2025 first for Bruce Brown) feels about reasonable with 6 first rounders but 2-3 being in this weak draft, where my guess is we'll look for those backups more than that wing, unless of course we keep our own pick or move up and then you really gotta get a starter with that pick.
So like this if we lose the pick and bring back Trent:
Poeltl - #18
Barnes - Boucher - #31
Barrett - (doesn't really matter but Nwora let's say)
Trent - Dick
Quickley - #28
and then you hope to get a a wing in 2025 or 2026. If we keep the pick, it's whoever the best prospect is and now that our core is pretty versatile, I don't think it matters which guy in the draft that is. If say Ron Holland can't shoot and so has to play the 4, he's not going to end up being a great pick anyways.
Where's the D?
