Flawed or not JV was still much better than a horrible Gasol that was nearing the end of his career. I've watching pretty much every Raps playoff game and almost every season he brought his level of play up in the post-season with his energy and consistency while our 'best players' in Derozan and Lowry were bricking shots like there was no tomorrow. How many times did those two shoot us out of playoff victories while JV kept us in games whenever his teammates bothered to involve him in the offense?

Also maybe I'm wrong but I could've sworn someone posted some stats where JV did pretty well when matched up against Embiid in the games we played for him. Gasol didn't provide much of anything when he was here except brick after brick whenever he got the ball and poor rebounding for a big. In fact with JV the Raps might've beaten Philly in less than 7 games on a luck shot by Kawhi. We could've had better rebounding and offensive threat in the middle which Gasol was neither and it hurt the Raps.

I honestly can’t believe what I’m reading. This is just a blatant lack of basketball knowledge to claim that JV would’ve provided more than Gasol. Prime JV was getting dealt for expiring contracts. Despite the numbers he puts up, teams offer him slightly above the MLE. He’s not a valuable player.

Gasol was one of our anchors on defense and his defense resulted in Embiid having the worst playoff series of his entire career. 37% from the field, 17ppg. The problem with JV was he was a bad defender, he couldn’t shoot the three and he can’t pass. Gasol played an integral role both defensively and offensively. On offense he was frequently used as a hub and we didn’t have JV clogging up the paint. It allowed for far more spacing and ball movement. We lose to Philly in the 2nd round and we don’t have a banner hanging in the rafters if Masai doesn’t get Gasol.

Lol if anyone thinks JV would of done what Gasol did, they are out of their mind and have no idea about the fundamentals of basketball. I am a fan of JV, but we were lucky to have Gasol during one of his last good years. Gasol was one of our defensive anchors, what a player and person. I have nothing but respect for him and Pau. They were world class basketball players and people.

At that point in their respective careers. Playoff JV was FAR BETTER than end of the line Gasol when we traded for him. How quickly we forget all these past playoff years when Demar and Lowry were constantly crapping the bed and were jacking up bricks and shooting us out of games and JV came through as being the most consistent playoff performer. It even hurt Demar, Lowry and Casey to even give JV some credit for coming up big for the team in those games.

Nah we wouldnt have gotten out of the first round against Vuc if we had JV, thank god we swindled Memphis out of Gasol, a decorated player in the NBA and internationally and a future HOFer. No team is going to retire JVs number.

Gasol was the anchor of our defence in the 2019 playoffs. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. We replaced one of the worst defensive bigs in the NBA with one of the best. Giannis **** talked about having nighmares about Gasol following the series.

There is absolutely no chance we win the title without Gasol. None. I can't believe we're still having this "debate".

But don't you find it strange how more ppl have love for Gasol, Pascal and OG than Kawhi?

Kawhi is the only reason we won

Kawhi was a big part of why we won. He wasn't the only reason.

Pascal, Kyle, Fred, Marc all made huge contributions to winning that championship.
