With the way Darko is managing this team, I think there is a good chance Memphis (currently tied with Raps at 19 wins), Portland (15 wins) and Charlotte (13 wins) could all pass the Raps in the standings, which would put the Raps odds at over 80% for retaining their pick (being top 6).

I think Detroit (8 wins), Wiz (9 wins) and SAS (11 wins) will do everything to stay in the top 3 worst records.

Memphis gets a bunch of injured players back after the break. They should be able to win and out of the running soon enough.

Portland is planning on starting Scoot for the rest of the season. They have just gone into full tank mode

at this point, i dont even know what pleases these people, if we did trade GTJR and he goes a hot streak, Masai would be destroyed and saying we lost GTJR for nothing. Never wins. Just ignore

Do you honestly think teams trade for players because they are on a hot streak?

I think the fact that GTJ was not traded, was simply a reflection of his value. The combination of his performance (which for the year has been significantly worse than his last few seasons), what he is able to do on the floor (generally just a shooter), and his contract (at $18.6M) makes him a fairly undesirable asset, other than as an expiring contract, to a team looking to dump salary.

I would not have been shocked if the Raps FO were talking to the Twolves about him, and possibly Schroder, but the Twolves didn't want to offer up anything out of their rotation (since they don't have a lot of excess contracts to move).

Unless the Raps were willing to take on bad contracts for GTJ, which it seems in general they were trying to avoid, I don't think there was much of a market for him.

What would a new team give him that we haven't already?

Or what he can actually offer to another team, that they couldn't just wait until the offseason if they were interested.

Any team with the MLE will probably be able to sign him to something under that amount this offseason. If there is a team interested in him, they are probably interested at a value much less than what he is making now, so they wouldn't need his bird rights. And trading for him now might put more pressure on the team acquiring him to offer him more than his market value.

As of now, any team interested in him can let the market set his rate. When he gets low offers from teams, he'll be forced to take the best of the low offers, and it won't be one team lowballing him, but probably many.

I think Trent will be able to get the MLE (or slightly better). Trent's fair value is probably around the MLE so him getting slightly above that doesn't seem out of the question.

DET: rumors they are going to make a Houston style push next year. Maybe they give Trent 3/45

ORL: really needs shooting from the guard spot

IND: needs a cheaper Hield replacement

Then there are the "maybe" teams who have cap space and need shooting like CHA and SAS.

i still think it's unlikely. We're not catching Pistons, Spurs, Hornets or Wizards. We can potentially beat one of Memphis or Portland, that would put us at 6th worst. It's entirely possible a team behind us jumps into the top 4 in the lottery and pushes us to 7th.

Keep in mind, teams like Memphis and Portland are going to start hard tanking post allstar break.

I don't think Memphis are in on the tank at all. They're just bad. They just beat the Bucks though, and some good players are coming back for them soon. They will leave us in the dust in terms of wins very soon.

I think we finish 6th last which is super risky but we've been lucky before..

He was a productive starter on a 48 win team. Bizarre take.

Trent jr has regressed as a player theres no doubt. He does nothing other than spot shoot now. He was more of a creator when he came here and was a risky but disruptive defender. Sad to see

GTJ is a role player and can't play his role right now because the entire team is trash

The NBA market is very illiquid, there can be a wide range of results on the contract based on timing and luck. Schroder was worth $80M one day and $2M the next, it was the same thing with Biyombo. It can swing wildly for those edge-case players who are borderline starters in the right situation. GTJ is a rotation player in the NBA, the question is just where. Malik Monk only got a 2 year MLE deal 2 years ago, and he's a comparable player in many ways. I think $45M/3yr would be more than fair if Toronto wants to roll the dice with GTJ again - I'd probably offer a 2 + 1 team option.

they are bad because 80% of the team is injured. Their season was over the second Morant got hurt.
The players don't tank, they beat the Bucks because a. the bucks are extremely erratic and b. they got lucky. Most of their roster isn't real NBA players, they will likely return to their talent level.
