Something to consider…

Players who have been selected that high at 22 years or older have not, for the most part, gone on to productive NBA careers. There have been 30 players who have been at least 22 on the day of the draft selected over the last 15 years. Of those, roughly three have become reliable starter-level players (Buddy Hield, Cam Johnson and Kelly Olynyk). Taurean Prince has consistently been a rotation player over his career. Corey Kispert, Obi Toppin and Jaime Jaquez Jr. seem to be on their way to getting there. The rest is a mixed bag.

Will be interesting to see how he does this year. I want to see him play with more confidence and assertiveness, if it's the same shtick as this year it's a hard pass. He needs to turn a corner mentally.

I agree with this. He has all the tools to dominate. If the light comes on, he has lottery level potential despite his age

This might not be worth anything anymore. Now players are incentivized to stay in school because they can get paid, and there are plenty of UDFAs breaking through into important roles.

Given the alternate options (Kel'el Ware, Yves Missi, Kyle Filipowski) available in the same range as our #19 pick and the prospects who might be available when we select at #31 (DeRon Holmes II, Ulrich Chomche), how would Zach Edey fit our current core group of players better than they could and what attributes does he provide that would compliment Scottie as a long-term solution at center in replacement of Yak and KO?

Guards - Immanuel Quickley, Bruce Brown
Wings - RJ Barrett, Gradey Dick, Ochai Agbaji
Forwards - Scottie Barnes, Chris Boucher, Jalen McDaniels
Centers - Jakob Poeltl, Kelly Olynyk
Raptors record prediction: 45-37 (6th place in the East)

I hear that, but I think it is fair to say if he came out last year he was a possible second rounder or even undrafted. He got national attention this year and used it to possibly get a first round guarantee. NIL money was lost but he will gain even more in the next NBA deal.

I have resigned myself to the fact that if he is available at 19 there is no chance the Raps pass on him. I don't think he is the best pick for this type of play, but hopefully they fire Darko and get a guy who can play a new style of ball.

If he came out last year he would have been a second rounder for sure. He upped his stock going in a weak draft.

That's the truth.

Portland should take him at #14 or Philadelphia at #16.

He will be solid like a Detlef Schremp maybe. I'd rather have Carrington.

Does anyone see a bit of Chandler Parsons in Da Silva. That's the player I kind of think of. Parsons had a short prime, but was a plus player for a little while.

I really hope we get Ja'Kobe Walter. I don't see any obvious teams that would take him early and he could be a drop to 19 candidate. Basically, I think teams will choose between him and McCain. To me, McCain is a perfectionist who will be good, but I just think Walter is a dog and will workout long term.

For starters they'd finally have a player stronger/heavier and better at rebounding than Scottie, for arguably the first time in his career, to guard opposing Cs. A 7'11" wingspan in drop coverage could potentially paper over some weak defensive links like Gradey, Quickley, RJ. That would have to be the defensive scheme since you obviously don't want him switching, and Scottie at the 5 would still be a closing lineup option.

I get that his lack of proven spacing is a concern, but he has the best FT% of any big you listed there except Holmes (who is arguably a PF- not much bigger than Scottie). The team could start Olynyk for more immediate spacing and that would probably put them solidly in the lottery for 2025.

Edey is big and strong, but I am not sure he fits our scheme on either end. We use bigs as playmakers on offense (see Kelly Olynyk and Jontay Porter) and Edey to me is perfect for a straight pick and roll offense where guards initiate actions. I'd argue that we don't run a ton of actions that work for him.

He is also not a great passer (negative ast/TO) as his focus has been on scoring, so I don't think he is a plus playmaker.

His best attribute will likely be to sit in the paint for offensive boards, and I think we shifted away from that (Chris Boucher is great at that but stopped using him).

On defense we have aggressive schemes that require pressure and switching to some extent. Edey is a drop coverage big. You can win a lot using that scheme (see the Bucks), but it would require an overhaul of the defense.

And while doing that he looked at as a challenege to be better for a higher draft slotting. You reward that. Theres too many kids in the draft that declare and arent ready as llayers in the nba but go in anyway for the cash

I'm not even daydreaming about drafting Carrington or Walter anymore...it's pretty obvious the FO is targeting a wing.

My gut says we'll pick TDS because he's the most "nba ready" & they want to sell hope to the fans asap.

So they'll pick the guy who can impact winning the quickest. I obv hope to be wrong and that if one of the better PGs fall that we snatch them up but that's just the feeling that I get. Personally if we have to take a "bigger wing", out of the realistic ones (I don't see Saluan falling) I'd take Tyler Smith ahead of Tyson & Furphy. I like Tyson's craftiness off the dribble so I won't be upset if we took hi but his wingspan worries me that he'll ever be able to defend & Furphy has the athleticism to make up for some of his lack of wingspan too. Not that I think Smith is a great defender but he at least has the physical tools to work with and I just think offensively he might have the greatest ceiling of the bunch.

Personally I'm not that thrilled by the wings expected in our range and again would hope we snatch one of the better guards instead but it looks like it's gonna be a wing and that would be my current preference but also my guess who I think the FO actually drafts in the end (if he's not taken by one of LAL or PHI first).
