The cryoti guru that doesnt understand basic financeS

Dude had a 7 figure contract and was pacing to a multi year deal.

Ya figure he’d have the sense to play the long game and borrow against his assets/revenues…..

Seems like he racked up debts when he was a G leaguer. There was no guarantee Johntay would get another contract.

It was clear he was throwing games away for the mob, who would throw away their career like that. The nba disrespected us by making i seem like Johntay acted alone.

What a shame, he’s clearly suffering from addiction so I hope he finds his peace.

In that game in Denver, where the Raps were leading throughout until the Nuggets chose to wake up and play, Jontay was shot for shot against his brother. Obviously he wanted to impress, but he was a big part of the Raptors success in that game at both ends, even his help in defending Jokic.

It would have been so reassuring to come out of this disaster season with at least two exciting prospects (Gradey and Jontay) along with a top draft pick. Oh well ...

If he's co-operating, then perhaps the lifetime ban can be reduced to three years or so. He would be around 27-28, still young enough to have an NBA career.

Jontay can rest easy knowing this guy is an even worse bettor.

It's a shame on a human level that he fell in with some mob group due to gambling debts.

I was at the OKC game which turned out to be his last. He was dominating on the 2nd team's offence with 8! assists. Such potential wasted.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/40380229/criminal-investigation-opened-canada-jontay-porter-scandal

Authorities in Canada are opening a criminal investigation into the betting scandal involving former Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter.

Craig Abrams, spokesperson for the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), told ESPN on Tuesday that the Investigation and Enforcement Bureau determined a criminal investigation is warranted after completing an assessment of available information related to "online betting irregularities from the Jan. 26 and March 20 Raptors games."

Four men have been charged with wire fraud by U.S. authorities in New York in connection with prop bets placed on Porter's statistics during the Jan. 26 game against the Los Angeles Clippers and the March 20 game against the Sacramento Kings. As of Tuesday, no charges against Porter have been announced.

He’ll likely never come back to Canada again. In the end he was a tiny footnote in a forgettable season. Just like with Jalen Harris, nobody will remember him in a few years.

I was recommended this video about Sports gambling and its pretty interesting. One thing I didn't know is there is a very simple loophole that makes the ban on celebrities and sports figures from promoting gambling completely toothless.

CEBL is actually a decent experience. Cheap tickets, and you can sit pretty much anywhere you want.

Sure, it is not the NBA but for $20 it is a decent event
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.
