Re: [Smith] - Wiggins being pulled from Olympics by Warriors
The more I think about it, the more fd up it is. Imagine, as an example, if we said, `sorry, scottie you can't play for team USA' how that would come across?
It's outrageous. Fk the Warriors.

I’m going to believe Barrett and Jordi here
If wiggins didn’t want to play they’d have no reason to publicly back him like they are
Only thing this confirms is Wiggins is getting traded imo. No way they crush his Olympic opportunity and he comes back in September all smiles and high fives.

Wiggins, if he wants to force the issue, demand a trade away from GS by July 5th.

This is my question as well. Would also completely change the optics around Wiggins and his commitment to Team Canada.
I believe in Masai.

Yup, no team would dare try that with Slovenia and Serbia with Luka and Jokic. You've got to make your stand.

I think they can void his contract. Grange is insinuating that their doctors are saying he’s not healthy (despite Can BBall doctors clearing him) which I think complicated the insurance on his contract which could lead to the Warriors being able to void it.
I know he wouldn't risk it but if they voided his contract wouldn't he be a free agent?
I'm so angry every time I think about this. Is there any other player being held out by his NBA team from any other nation? Basketball needs to have the same regard for international play as soccer does, where this would never happen. Same with rugby. Playing for your country has to mean something. And this isn't a qualifying tournament or even the worlds, it's the Olympic Games for goodness sake
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

Maybe this is the curse of the part owner moron who shoved Lowry or the security guard who thought he was an Oakland cop and acosted Masai. Now it is gsw ownership blocking Wiggins Olympic opportunity. I think they are using this to make a trade more attractive.

Perhaps. I just notice the US has a tendency to try to big brother Canada on things and more often then not Canadians don't push back.

Frick. A deep Canadian run at the Olympics would only put a new shine on Wiggins’ trade value. I have no idea what the frick they’re doing unless it’s straight vindictiveness. Or if Kerr fears losing to Canada.
There’s no panel or board or governing body that can offer recourse here. The one thing that might do it would be if Adam Silver called up the Warriors personally.
But if the Warriors relent now, it’s a straight-up admission that they were lying. Andrew wanted to play all along. This was not a “mutual decision”.

He could get his contract voided if he suffers any type of injury. Risking 80M, regardless of how rich you are, is a ridiculous ask.
If you're trading him then hurry up and do it but if they drag this along and/or do nothing then screw the Warriors for doing this.

I don't think its anything malevolent. its simply a trade issue. they don't want him to be injured prior to that.
lebron is in the same camp. he'll be a ufa and prob wants to get a deal done prior to joining the us Olympic team.

Makes too much sense to trade wiggins to raptors for Bruce Brown. Only question what warriors will give to sweeten the deal.

Yah, if I'm him and he's still on the team in September I pull a Ben Simmons on Philly. Do the bare minimum to keep being paid and seriously devalue his trade value. They'll need to offer two first rounders to get rid of him.

Not the same - in that example that would be a Lebron call not to play because he does not have a contract -- not a team telling him he can't play.

Ya he'd be a free agent but having his contract voided would be a disaster for him cause no team would offer him 3/85m now. He'd be lucky if he got midlevel money.

It's outrageous. Fk the Warriors.
That's becuse you are thinking from your point of view only. They likely want to trade his arse before the start of the season, and they are not interested in him going down to injury and being stuck with his salary. They'd act differently if they were going to be keeping him and wanted him to have a positive view on things. At this point they don't care and have only their best interests to worry about. They put zero value into worrying about Canada's interests.

I imagine Warriors are playing hardball because of all the personal time off they gave him. “We did you a favour and now we don’t want you blowing up your trade value at the Olympics.”

Hardly my own POV at all. No need to explain the Warrior's plan as it's pretty transparent, doesn't make it a correct one.

Re: [Smith] - Wiggins being pulled from Olympics by Warriors
I seriously doubt they care about weakening the Canadian team. What is more likely, and possibly as objectionable, is that they would take playing for the US team into consideration but don’t care enough to do it for non-American players.
