I never said the 2012/2013 roster was a treasure chest of talent....I said alot of the players we got with high lottery picks were the catalysts for us being able to even put together the championship team in the first place (Which is true)...If we did not have them players via high end draft picks we would not have had the assets to make them trades possible to begin with...
Also lets not act stupid here and pretend the draft run Masai went on for a few years in gettin Siakam/OG/Powell/FVV has a high chance of happening again....That was legit one of the better draft runs a GM been on in some time in terms of finding players where he found them at...Thats why we have been kind of running around with our heads cut off the last few seasons cause in past drafts where we picked the Siakams/OGs we been picking the Flynns/David johnsons of the world...
I get what you are saying with the path you are trying to explain but like i said that only works if the late draft picks are going the way you want (Which lets be realistc 8/10 times thats not how the draft plays out) And it only works if you have built up assets already in your orginization already (Which right now we do not have)...
The Kawhi trade or a Kawhi like trade will never happen ever again....If you been following the trend as of late the Superstars control the league now not the GMs or the Owners....Its a player driven league where the player can now actually almost hand pick where they want to be traded....Siakam is a perfect example of this....We were trying to trade him last offseason but a story broke he won't sign anywhere long term....Made teams scared to give up assets for him....He then made it be known Pacers is a place he would like to play so they were the only teams willing to even give up assets even if it was minimal assets they still gave us something and we were forced to take it...So yeah don't count on trades like that happening much in todays NBA unless Adam Silver changes something to give GMs full power back...
I don't think anyone is saying for us to be in the lottery for 5 years...thats just you putting words into peoples mouths....We are saying we already have a good strong young core with BBQ but we are still assets/1 legit Barnes level prospect away from being a contender in the future....2025 draft is stacked ....We are not a playoff team next year anyways even if we try to win our hardest...So why not go for a crack at it next draft grab a legit first or even a franchise player and watch BBQ The player we draft grow into a juggernaught in the east?
Multiple times in this thread you've asserted that the only path forward is to tank. More recently here you asked for people to provide what the alternative path is, even though multiple posters had already done that using real life examples like how we won in 2019.
If you want to believe that the only path forward is to tank in 2025 and draft Flagg or someone else, you are entitled to hold that view. Others are entitled to point out that there are lots of other ways that the franchise can proceed forward.
For what is it worth, you are not going to bait me into the straw-man arguments that you keep putting forward. You keep trying to ascribe to me things that I have not said.
Tank as in tank in 2025....Yes....That is the best path with the team we currently have....Sounds like the head coach and the GM of the team are also leaning towards that reality...what happens beyond the 2025 draft is unknown...But as of today the 2025 draft is the best option...Without bringing up our past here cause we are in 2024....Not 2019....Some of you seem to be stuck in the past....We are not the same team we were even just a year ago...This is a totally new looking team with new players....Until you come up with a plan without bringing up the 2019 title team that was 5+ years ago now ill keep saying that we need to build this team the right way and the start is going for a high draft pick in 2025.
You keep saying the alternate path is the way we got the 2019 title team without realizing we do not have the tradable assets we once had...so that alternate path you present is foolish....We also do not have a 6 + years of high playoff seeded teams and a few deep playoff runs like we did with the DD/Lowry teams before we made trades...This team atm is max 30 win team.
The alternate path I am talking about started in 2012/2013 when Masai took over, not in 2018. Lol... We have similar or better assets right now vs. that team. Kind of shocking you are not understanding this very simple statement. We won 2019 not by tanking, but via 6+ years of good management. We started with a very average roster in 2012/2013. We increased the value of the players we had, we drafted very well, and we won trades. You can dismiss this as foolish, but it is literally how we won a championship less than 5 years ago.
You can choose to dismiss the actual history of our franchise and take a myopic position that the only path forward is to tank in 2025. Smart people assess all possible paths forward and choose an approach based on the information available. Maybe the best approach is tanking next year, maybe the best approach is trying to improve the roster and get back to winning games. I've not made any comment on what I think has a better probabilities, I've only pointed out how stupid it is to start from a binary position of, tanking in 2025 is the only path forward.
