42, tore ACL, MCL and Meniscus when I was like 32. Doc said it was like a bomb went off in my knee, really bad.

Yeah I don't play anymore, realized the swelling was the knee protecting from the bone on bone. Need to have some mobility for the kids.

I heard the cortisone shots can work and can't.

Tore it playing ball, or just a bad step etc?

Also yeah the cortisone shots are not reliable, my mother said she got zero relief and my FIL swears by them, but over time they lose pretty much all efficacy.

Playing ball. Fast break, planted on one leg to start a layup, guy came and bear hugged me at full speed. All my weight was on the planted leg and my knee dislocated and went back in.

My teammates were... not happy with that guy.

This is precisely why I don’t play adult league ball and only pick up. Some guys forget what you’re there for and that we have jobs and kids etc.
not strong, only aggresive cuz the power ain't directed/ that's why, we are subjected to the will of the oppressive

I had the opposite thought. I feared I was more at risk in pickup and lower level ball because people didn't know how to play

Thought my reffed advanced league was safer.

I was wrong

Yeah man a lot of those rec league dudes are aggro and take it way too seriously, trying to live out their glory years again. Sorry to hear man, hope you’re able to get your body right.

8 weeks after surgery. Walking pretty normally now, going for hikes/walks of 2-3 kms. Went from a walk to a cane to walking freely, although I use trekking poles for long walks in the woods. Bending the knee is the slowest thing to happen but this week I'm finally able to pedal a stationary bike for full revolution, did 10 minutes on a spin bike today.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

Anyone else been through it? I realize the demographic of the board means there won't be many if any.

Mom been through it. Dad about to go through it. You’re about at the typical track of healing time. First two weeks are the toughest. Gotta keep icing and doing PT. Takes 1.5-2 months to fully heal. Rooting for you!!!
Oops looks like I’m responded to an old post. Glad you are doing better.

This is NOT an alternative to knee replacement, but feel it's a good place to share for anyone who has knee concerns:
Look up kneesovertoesguy (real name Ben Patrick) on youtube or IG for ways to strengthen your knee.

Are there any "injury prevention" exercises or programs that you can do to protect yourself in the future? I remember a few posters in here sharing some programs, workouts that protect your joints in the future.

I can't recall the name but it was it was its own category
Google "Hind Rajab"
Total Killed by Israel = 50,000+
Israel kills a child every 45 minutes and ban aid workers from bringing in baby formula
Total being starved by Israel = 500,000 -1,000,000

MobilityWOD? KneesOverToesGuy? These two are known to be somewhat high rizz figures

Anyway @WaltFrazier, one of my neighbours is an elderly dude in his 70s. Got the knee replacement some months back. He's up and about without a cane now :)

I searched him on YouTube and the first video was another exercise guy saying the kneesovertoes guy makes some false claims and tries to sell products. But then he said that he likes a lot of his stuff.

I'll check him out more, kneesovertoes I mean, to see if he can help my good knee

I think the best thing to do would be to take everything with a grain of salt and to treat any discomfort as a sign to stop that motion. Also I know a physiorizzio in Scarborough who specializes in knee rehab too. Let me know if you'd like his handle and I will dm it to you

I appreciate the offer Clay but I'm in Barrie which is kind of far. And I have a great physiotherapist here who has really done a lot for my progress.

How's it far? Barrie is a mere suburb of Scarborough. In any case, I commend your physio's rizz (rizziotherapist).
