The question is, that why in 9 years of being an NBA player, no team has ever put him in for this many minutes. Conditioning thing, just not that good, something else entirely? His defensive numbers slipping this year can't be a coincidence either, but maybe it is tied to all the injuries, who knows.

Either way, no one has ever played him this much before, and it's not like he's playing significantly better than in the past, he's just on a really bad team that was limited due to injuries and became more of a focal point.

Okay this thread so far seems to be missing something majorly obvious. Poeltl LEADS THE LEAGUE in personal fouls. The reason he has never played this many minutes is because he was often in foul trouble. It's not a coincidence that the year he's playing the most minutes is also the year his defensive percentages are down - he has to play more conservative and cautiously on defense because the team can't afford for him to foul out.

His overall effectiveness is probably peaking at less than 30 minutes. I'd argue he's playing better this year and now that he's hitting free throws respectably he's able to stay on the court later in close games. If he wasn't that good, contenders wouldn't want him. They tend to want good players.

I don't think he's playing better this year, he's just being used more. His FG/TS% is down well below last year and his career averages, and while his FT% is up which is great, his overall efficiency is down, which is to be expected with increased volume. But more concerning, he's been regressing defensively, so I'm not sure this is a particularly good year, but it's not bad.

Have we heard any real rumours of contenders wanting him? Or do you just mean hypothetically?

Real weird post to be hyper focused on efficiency when he is is actually dead smack in the middle of the pack in his career in terms of TS%. 61.9% for his career in SA, 61.7% this year.

The guys taken on significantly bigger offensive load and maintained elite efficiency. So yeah, I would say he is playing better

Not to mention, career high rebounding rate, carerer high FT% shooting, career high PPG, career high.... But hey, his TS% is down less than 0.2% for his career, so of course that is where you focus.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Yeah idk why this is a worry.

Less MPG than Jokic, Sabonis, AD, Adebayo, Gobert, KAT, and Lopoez. Similar to Sengun, Vucevic, Turner, Wemby, and Zubac.

2021 - Aldridge was there
2022 - He played 29mpg. Really not that far off 32mpg
2023 - SA was horrible, and Collins was a solid bench big who let Poeltl sit
2024 - Siakam/Barnes/OG went small a lot more than now, and then he barely played post-trade

Realistically you want Poeltl capped at like 28-30mpg. Probably where he will end up now with an actual bench big. But I see you trying to imply what you are trying to imply

Yep thats why context is important, when talking about stats.
