I said previously that Darko was coaching to lose. Lately he’s been coaching to win. There is no way he had a brain transplant or suddenly just gets it.

Hopefully post trade deadline he goes back to coaching to lose (ie. play youth, questionable player combinations, getting players to develop/play to their weaknesses).

Does Darko win COTY if we make the play-in?

If Raptors make the play in and Darko wins COY, it will be the second time Masai fired COY.

I said this before Darko is here for the full rebuild of the team. He isn't going anywhere. Once the Raptors start winning and the expectations change then we can evaluate his leash. Expectations was player development not wins. People got their panties in a twist over some bad losses that will come in a rebuilding year. That Memphis loss seems so long ago now that the Raptors have shown some growth.

This is the thread that pushed Darko over the edge.

He read the thread, & yelled over to Scottie Barnes "this is shame"!

Scottie said "Don't worry coach I got you" & went out & started balling on both ends.

Chris Boucher, Kelly Olynyk & Bruce Brown also felt bad for their head coach & the rest is history.

I'm not sure I buy the idea that Darko was brought in for development only and not to win. In his first season here with Siakam, OG & Poeltl, the mandate from Masai was to make the play-in. Masai wanted to keep FVV but when that failed, signing Schroder was a win-now move.

Then when we were going nowhere, Masai finally decided to trade Siakam and OG, and BBQ was born and we started off winning but injuries started happening and only when Barnes suffered the season ending injury did we truly tank.

Masai said at last season ending presser that he wanted to give BBQ a chance to play, to win while we develop at same time. That was supposed to be this season but with more injuries happening from the get go and losses piling up, it became a de facto tank.

The number of injuries make it difficult to assess Darko. But it's not just wins & losses, there were some games where Darko's in-game management was sub-par. In this regard, Darko seems to need development himself and this is where the issue begins. If only development is needed from Darko, then he can do that effectively as Assistant Coach, where he's currently best suited.

I don't think he's done anything worthy of much appreciation in 1.5 seasons so far. He's performed his job adequately. The paying customer fanbase should be appreciated instead.

I've said it before, I think he's our Erik Spolestra.

A 2 way coach. That can develop players and win.

You've just got to give it time
