Philly is doing a nice strategic tank. Unforeseen injuries, etc ruined their season. Now they are shamelessly throwing games to score a high end draft pick. This is how the Spurs nabbed Duncan, the Mavs got Lively, etc. You take a brief step back to take a big jump the following seasons…..

It would suck for the Raptors that for all the losing these past 3 seasons, we couldn’t even get a sure fire starter out of the draft and here Philly suddenly walks in and grabs someone like Harper, Edgecombe, or even Flagg.

Philly is not strategic as much as desperate. OKC owns their pick if they end up 7 or higher so they don't want to give it away.

Toronto should have had the same urgency last year and we lost out on Zach Edey as a result of our record.

Good thing we have Jak who's better than Edey

What is the chance you get 2 heads in a row?

If you've already done one flip and gotten heads, then the chances of making it to 2 in a row are... 50/50.

If you've already done nine flips and they were all heads, then the cahses of making it to 10 heads in a row are... 50/50.

I think we lack a big man pipeline. Zach is already at 9/8 and shoots 36% from three in year one for a playoff team. We can swing for Khaman this year, but we could have had a high level Canadian player which would have been great for the fanbase as well.

I'd rather Jak + Khaman or Queen over only simply having Edey, s/o to Edey as well, but he isn't some can't miss prospect we should hold our heads in the sand for. Jak right now is better than Edey and probably will be for the next 3+ yrs

Unless he wants to be a GM, why would he leave? Masai gave him his first scouting job in Denver (he was in media relations before that) and brought him over with him to Toronto. His whole career has pretty much been in Toronto and he's part of the inner circle; he and Bobby are Masai's guys from the beginning. And for all the warts our ownership has, they are pretty hands off when it comes to player personnel which he gets to run.

Will be interesting to see whether he and Bobby stick around once Masai leaves.

I hope they do stick around so we’re still okay

Oh dear god. I can only imagine what this board would be like had we KEPT our pick last year, and now had a chance to give away a high pick in this draft instead.

Go look at what lots of Grizz fans say about Edey.

Hunted on defense and unplayable vs good teams and guards. We don't have that fear with Yak.

We need to re-sign Yak and then add a good backup to the pipeline via trade or draft.

Fair and accurate point

I feel confident they would have ensured a bottom 2 finish though and this eliminating any possibility of losing that pick

I've given up on the FO & Coach - can't even tank properly. I predict the FO will give Orlando Robinson a multiyear contract after this season for looking decent against chumps and then having to give up assets to dump his contract like they did with Khem Birch.

you can spin it how you like but we traded Khem birch for Jakob, not to dump his expiring contract lol lol

Birch's contract wasn't expiring, he had another year left. The Spurs ended up just waiving him and eating the extra year, so I think it's fair to say we likely had to give up extra draft capital to get them to take on Birch.

Return to Toronto Raptors
