He isn't talent, he's shooting 32.5% on 3s with 56.2% True Shooting for us this year while playing against low quality opposition, mostly teams trying to lose and out tank us. He hasn't shown he belongs on an NBA roster and he won't get minutes next year when we're actually trying to win games because we're overloaded at his position.
I know this is a board that was delusional enough to think not picking up Jeff Dowtin's contract was huge loss, so I get that everyone here massively overrates anyone who even plays 10 day contracts for us and doesn't look terrible, but you have to accept that Lawson is a longshot to do anything in the NBA.
It seems to me that we're trying out different 10 days to get an idea on how a prospect we draft might look here. Fit doesn't matter that much but well integrated talent usually develops a whole lot better.
Except we have a limited number of roster spots, a limited amount of space under the tax to keep players, and a limited number of minutes to give to players we are trying to develop while also trying to win games and get into the playoffs next season. There's no reason to hold on to a fringe NBA prospect entering his year 25 season who isn't even playing that well when we already have very young team loaded with prospects (Shead, Mogbo, Dick, Ja'Kobe, Battle, Chomche) and two more draft picks to add to the team heading into next year.
