This guy, a Miami guy, has the right reasonable take:
They are probably also contacting the agents of free agent coaches like Malone but no one is leaking that. Assistant Johnnie Bryant is a viable candidate too.
The timing so far is exactly like Masai and Nurse, fired a few days after elimination, set out on a long search and interview process. Masai maybe missed out on Udoka because he moved slowly. But how long did it take to hire Darko? Weeks right? I can't recall if he was even in place by summer league, certainly not by the draft. There's two differences. 1. Raps were looking for a coach to rebuild, Knicks are looking for a coach to improve a contender. 2. Knicks are in the media capital, and I've learned on the Knicks board, Knicks for clicks is a real thing. A coaching search takes weeks, especially this one with no competing vacancies. But the hot take media types can't come out every day and say, well Leon Rose knows what he's doing, let's just be patient. No, they have to stir the pot with takes like, oh what are they doing, same old Dolan, etc. But it's not the same old front office anymore.
Edit: my mistake the tweet above was a guy commenting on the media angle. This is the Miami guy, commenting that Knicks are going about things in a smart way:

In fairness, they have the same overbearing, meddling and irrational owner in Dolan that they've always had during their 2 decades of futility, so they don't automatically get the benefit of the doubt regarding questionable decisions and/or their processes because they've had some recent success.
Fair, but it seems he's been pretty hands off since Rose took over. He's not that guy anymore
