If they end up in the lottery, I can definitely see Boston "luck" into a top 3 picks next season lol. That's just how the NBA works and from the reaction on Masai's face when the Raptors found out their draft position, he knows it.

Congratulations to Brad Stevens - Boston got under the second luxury tax apron much easier than expected.

To get out of the tax entirely I think the math was over 40 mil they needed to shed.
Even if you gave away Hauser/Pritchard into other teams exemptions they'd still be a little short.
If they go that route to reset the clock they almost certainly are tanking.
The more likely scenario is they try to be a below the tax team next year by letting Simons/Niang expire.
Yeah, I think it looks like this. About 20.5M or so to fill in the rest of this roster, so basically just plug in a non-tax MLE center for 15M to start and let's assume they draft one next year:
2026 1st - MLE - Queta
Tatum-#32-JordanWalsh
Brown-Hauser
White-Schierman
Pritchard-#28
and 3 more minimum guys and you're just under the tax.
Hartenstein, Poeltl and Ayton all somewhat plausible though the first 2 should be making more than the MLE.
Maybe they trade a future first to move up in the draft this year or next, target a big in the draft this year that they think can start by year 2. Everything for them now is about finding 2 big and a 3+D wing to join Tatum/Brown/White/Hauser/Pritchard in a 8 man rotation. Seems plausible when you have your own firsts and the MLE, but you have to pick well or find a trade or good bargain free agent/trade option.
Where's the D?

Prefer this to the Holiday deal. Porzingis could still be good at like 35 just by being tall and shooting.
