Re: Post Draft Poll: CMB or the field?
I mean chances are someone in the field out plays him, so if you pick the field, make your pick.
Having said that, I like the pick, should be interesting to watch him develop.

Maluach would be a better fit but there's significant bust potential. I was hoping for Maluach but the BPA is easily CMB.

Re: Post Draft Poll: CMB or the field?
Whoever Masai picks.
Happy with CMB. High ceiling player - best defender in the class and just needs to work on his shot. I believe our coaching staff can maximize his potential as a shooter - we were able to revive Ochai's shot, have Shead add it to his toolbox, and even Mogbo was knocking down 3s after not making a single one in his 2 years at college.
Maluach is a very high risk player. He's ridiculously raw and offensively is 2 years away from being 2 years away. I hope he puts it all together because I really enjoyed watching him in Duke and can see how much being drafted means to him.
I honestly believe even if players like Fears and Tre were available when we were picking, we'd still pick CMB.

Re: Post Draft Poll: CMB or the field?
A lot of the experts and our FO felt CMB was BPA. So, who am I to tell them they're wrong?
I, like many others, thought that Maluach would be auto picked if he fell to us, so CMB was surprising. Which leads me to believe they really do like him a whole lot. If'we're moving on from RJ, I can see how this CMB pick makes some sense, giving us back size at the wing and a driving/defensive force.
3p shooting will have to be addressed via role players like JKW, Ochai and Dick. Maybe Ingram stretches it out even more.

Do you think Maluach would have been able to play Darko ball? I don't. I like his potential but I think the team is looking for players who can make quick reads on offense.

Re: Post Draft Poll: CMB or the field?
When you look at who is most likely to bust CMB is at the bottom of the list with Flagg imo.
If he develops a 3 point shot he’s probably top 3 player in the draft.
If he doesn’t develop a 3, I feel confident in a redraft in 5 years he’ll be top 10.
The odds Maluach and Essengue reach their potential is much less than CMB reaching his and CMB floor is much higher.
It was a good pick. We all just suffer from Raptor induced but-his-shot-ittus.

I'm just glad we did not draft Maluach. Fit aside, when the scouting report on a big guy says bad hands and/or sub-par rebounding, I'm avoiding them
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

Hugh Ceiling, High Floor pick who can contribute from day 1. It’s a good pick.
I’m surprised at his handles and ability to attack off the dribble. As others have said, he’s a reliable jump shot away from having star potential.
As it stands, I already see All Defensive team votes in his future, which is enough to justify a #9 pick.

But that's his downside.
No thats his backside.
Lowry's upside is mental and psychological.

Youre very right here. I don't think he has the experience but the tools and skills he showed were nuts in the BAL. I just really want a stretch big.
A stretch big removes the primary help defense. Imagine Barnes and Ingram in that kind of 5 out offense.

Re: Post Draft Poll: CMB or the field?
We'll have to see what else we do to evaluate the utility of this one, I think. If he learns how to shoot the three through some voodoo reconstruction of his shot, then he has a chance to be more like a healthy OG in terms of overall utility. Maybe a little extra with his ability to use his body in big-like action.
He does look like he'll be a positive defender right out of the gate. And he seems to move well around the key. Doesn't look totally useless with a live dribble, and he's a lefty, which does mess with people a little. It's a small thing, and obviously he isn't the only lefty in the league, but it's a thing. Guys get comfortable guarding the right hand, anticipating the drive to the right side, so maybe from a low-usage guy, it'll be enough to help him be just a little better than he might otherwise be. Maybe I'm just inventing reasons to be optimistic.

What about Barnes and gradey dicks shot

Re: Post Draft Poll: CMB or the field?
He's supposed to be a safe pick. Someone drafted later will probably end up a better player but if CMB ends up as a strong defensive role player then Masai will have gotten what he wanted.
The pick signals that the Raptors want to compete now and didn't want to take a chance on potential.
