Essengue but I'm more than happy with CMB. I didn't even bother looking at CMB since he looked very similar to Scottie and Mogbo which in turn made him super underrated by us fans.

I mean maybe Malauch is that but there is also a chance he ends up not being able to defend as well at the NBA level and is a liability on offence.
If he was such a sure thing, he wouldn't have fallen to 10.
Of course there is a risk he doesn't pan out. At the end of the day that's the nature of the draft, nothing is guaranteed.
You could also say that if CMB's fit with the modern nba wasn't such an issue, he wouldn't have fallen to 9.
Similarly with coward, a 3+d wing with length and athleticism is highly valuable for any team.
Anyway, that's what I would have done. I trust the FO to make the best decisions for this team

I'm so happy we didn't draft Essengue. He'll be solid but CMB is a lot better at the moment and has a higher ceiling.
In Masai We Trust

Full transparency here, when Masai took Scottie, I was devastated because I really wanted Suggs. Turns out Masai was right. When he took Pascal, I was like why don't we get Deyonta Davis? And obviously, he was right. This happened over and over. When he skipped Maluach last night, I was shocked again... but now I am on fully on board with CMB. Even if CMB doesn't hit, Masai and team know what they are doing. Plus CMB looks like a mix of Chuck Barkley and Draymond Green, how can I not be on board.

My head said Maluach, my heart said Carter. At least I like CMB as a player, even if the fit doesn't seem great. Essengue or Demin would have been tough.

I would have taken the New Orleans deal. Might have even been better than what ATL got .

This place is insufferable.

Every day I was leaning a different direction. By draft I wanted Coward. The fact that Memphis traded up for him reinforces that but I'm good with CMB. I believe the front office went with who they thought was BPA and I trust them to know that.

I wanted the Russian. Once he was gone I was like whatever Masai picks Ill be cool with.
Low key I wanted Malauch but that's mostly based on the need and I was aware of the previous big men that get drafted and don't really amount to nothing.
Lets bump this thread to see who was right

Yeah, we should have won a few more games so we'd be picking in the Mavs or Spurs spots. You do understand how the lottery works, right?
I liked the concept of Maluach. Wemby will be dominating the league for the next decade, and it would good to be able to put a long-ass dude on him. And supposed he's been working on his 3-ball.
But at this point I have to trust management implicitly. Not just Siakam over Skal, or Scottie over Suggs (who is still pretty good and would fit perfectly on this roster). But Walter and Shead have been surprisingly strong additions to the rotation. Masai and Dan have earned the right not to be seriously questioned for the next few drafts.

if anyone was going to pick Maluach it was going to be Masai....the fact he passed on him is very telling. I think they feel that he's too much of a project, and they're entering win-now mode in a weak East.

I liked him too but some here made me realize how overhyped he might be. He played D3 and then D1 but never dominated at any level, didn't play great vs good competition in D1, 21 yo...I don't know if picking him at 9 would have been smart. CMB is just flat out a better basketball player and a tank out there, I'm sure he just owned guys during the workouts, physically he's just ahead of every top prospects in this draft. CMB was on top of my list so yeah I'm super happy we got him.

So much has changed in just 24 hours… with the knowledge that Masai was leaving, I feel that Masai probably let Bobby make the final decision on this pick.

I would have taken the Pelicans package. Then I would have traded the 23rd pick and a protected Raptors 1st pick to back near where we were lol.

Just curious but since you're using "fit" against drafting CMB does that mean you think they should have drafted based on need not bpa? That becomes a whole different argument that a lot of people will call sacrilegious.
You don't have to like the pick but according to their scouts he was the bpa
