If the motivational issues weren't enough, now a team who isn't going to compete for anything is willing to pay huge money to make this guy go away. Massive red flag.

Why are we even talking about trading for him on this board?

Dude might as well just retire. He’s a guy that plays because he’s big and athletic and basketball could make him rich. Well, he’s rich now. Time to go home and be a family man or whatever.

This isn’t conjecture either. I have it on good authority that Ayton doesn’t like the grind of being an athlete and…well he’s got some other stuff in his life that is unfortunate. He’s better off quitting at this point and finding his happiness elsewhere like Larry Sanders and Andrew Bynum did in eras past.
not strong, only aggresive cuz the power ain't directed/ that's why, we are subjected to the will of the oppressive

Yep. Teams really don’t want to take on crappy contracts to get rid of someone unless they’re getting draft compensation in return.

Did they do those "Odds for next team" thing yet? And are the Lakers at the top?

Generally speaking, the value from a big man comes from defense and rebounding. He certainly rebounds, but he's not a good defender because he's a lazy bitch. And he isn't a particularly impressive passer, either, nor does he generally exhibit much more than about 15 feet of range. He does pair well with a PnR playmaker and he runs well in transition on O, but like... he also doesn't like to be particularly physical, which somewhat defeats the whole purpose of being a big guy.

the contract Ayton just opted out of, was given by one of the darlings of the board right now the Pacers. imagine the chain scenario where turner is the one traded, sabonis for hali doesnt happen and we label them as a treadmill team.

We could do that for everyone. Imagine if the Spurs weren't spiteful and took the much better package from the Lakers for Kawhi... how would Masai been seen today? :)

They did not put together a great package. The Spurs are also not dumb enough to accept an inferior package just to be spiteful. These are adults running billion dollar franchises lol. Woj reported in late June that the Lakers had offered Ingram and a FRP but the Spurs wanted a more complete offer.

Are you sure about this? I thought it was widely known they offered all their young guys including Ingram but held Kuzma out of the package. They also offered all their 1st round picks.

Our package sucked in comparison...

Why would they offer all of their FRPs for a guy they could just go after in the offseason? Ingram, Hart and a FRP is what was generally reported.

Do you honestly believe the Spurs would turn that deal down if the Lakers were trading all of their pick? That’s madness.

Likely needed a pick to move RJ for cap relief. RJ and 9 being shopped around makes sense in this circumstance, but you're going to want value in some form like Denver got in the MPJ trade if you're giving up a valuable pick.

Anyway, this is why pinning the OG trade on IQ improvement while taking on the RJ contract as ballast had a higher chance of being sub-par compared to a pick package.

I remember this guy skipped a practice or a game or something because of ice on his driveway…..

Agreed. No shame in that either, IMO. You hit the genetic lottery, collect your $100M(?) payout, and go live your life. We tend to gloss over what an insane amount of money that is.

You could almost say the same thing about Ben Simmons, with one important difference: Ben Simmons doesn’t like playing basketball, but Ben Simmons **** loves being a basketball player.

He will be a Laker and will prolly have a decent time there playing with Luka....I feel Luka will be the only player outside of CP3 to make Ayton play well.
