This was obvious, he's from Philly and his primary home is in Philly.

He will sign a 1 day contract here next summer when he retires.

Nothing to do with that.

His roots are in Philly, his primary residence is in Philly, his family is in Philly, makes sense to retire in Philly.

He already said he will sign a 1 day contract here when he retires - see this quote from an interview last year:

Despite playing for the 76ers each of the last two seasons, Lowry still plans to retire with the Raptors on a one-day contract. “I'm definitely retiring as a Raptor. That's something I've said since I left here. I will sign that one-day contract, and I will retire as a Toronto Raptor.

Also from 2021:

"That's still home. Like I've said, and I'll say it now, I will sign a one-day contract and I'll retire as a Toronto Raptor. That is my everything," Lowry said.

As you can see Kyle has always indicated he will sign a 1 day contract here, he never indicated any sign of returning.
