Who better to act as the NBPA President than a guy that went undrafted, appreciates the challenges of not having certainty and stability while pursuing a dream in basketball.

He is a very interesting choice, having tasted both sides of fledgling hopes for an NBA career that could have ended at any moment, to becoming one of the highest paid players in the league. I believe when he joined the Rockets, his contract made him 5th in annual salary.

It will be interesting to see if he can still relate to the “little guy” in this new role or if he will only look out for the top paid as he has become accustomed to.

Yeah that's what I'm wondering, if he will have an influence on the next CBA and if he does whether he will work for a better distribution of income amongst players to benefit the vast majority of his constituents or if he continues with this current regime where the top gets the lion's share of the income.

With this being said Financial Freddie is probably going to be a big reason we have the next CBA lock-out. He will try to milk owners for more of a split, but the bigger issue is rebalancing the players salaries. No player should be paid more than 25% of the luxury tax level. If you cap super-star salaries you will see more parity across the board, but increasing vet mins. I personally think the MLE is a bit high, but maybe teams should have multiple MLEs to use each year. However, bringing down super star salaries and the size of rookie extensions I think are important. Barnes getting 40-50 million 3 years into the league is just way too much.

It will be a very interesting negotiation. I could completely see this side coming from Fred, but at the same time, the superstars see what the league is earning in these tv revenues, and probably expect a large share because they are the ones driving it. Combined with the potential for other leagues being developed (Middle East or Europe) that could then try to draw the superstars with massive deals, it could make for an very interesting negotiation.

Say what you want about Frederizz van Cleef (pay big for your heads), he has a big heart and is a smooth operator. I find it interesting that both him and Christopher Paul were chosen as presidents. It's like aliens choosing the most hominid of their tribe to act as leaders of a delegation to us.

He has only been chosen, let’s see how he does on the job before crowning him.
One only needs look at the controversy currently raging regarding the NFL Players’ Association to see that the “leaders” aren’t necessarily working on behalf of their constituents.
Heck, just look at politics. There’s a certain idiot elected to the highest of global nation offices who lacks in every possible attribute of “leadership.”

Does he get paid extra for this position?
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

This is actually hilarious given what some people were saying on here two years ago. Keeps getting better and better.

This is a good role for Fred. Good for him.

@Mikistan - look at the opposing teams in both those franchise "records", to wit:

A tanking Magic squad and Charlotte's G-League team.

Return to Toronto Raptors
