Giannis I feel you need to mortgage the future for him, which may make sense, but you can't over gut the team for the guy.
Sabonis I think is least disruption to our team chemistry as he plays unselfish ball, is a big time rebounder, healthy player and probably someone that fits Toronto culture. Acquiring him might also not require us to mortgage the future.
Both deals probably start with Jakob and RJ as the core pieces.
Giannis would look something like
RJ
Jakob
Ochai
Walter
4 first round picks
Sabonis could be a few ways of skinning the cat:
RJ
Jakob
2 firsts
Sabonis
Devin Carter
Lol Giannis starts with Scottie +++
And that's way too much to give up for Sabonis. I'd argue that we'd be a worse team after that trade for Sabonis. I think Jakob contributes to winning more than Sabonis. Sabonis is a great rebounder but easily mitigated in the playoffs with length. Jakob is also better defensively.
I'm interested in Sabonis, but Sacramento doesnt need Poeltl for a rebuild. They probably also don't need RJ, but they can talk themselves into taking RJ.
You'd have to get a 3rd team to take Poeltl and send back salary. I think GSW works, who can make it a bigger trade involving Kuminga/Monk also.
Something like:
Toronto: Sabonis
SAC: Kuminga, RJ, TOR '26 1st, Hield
GSW: Monk, Poeltl
Warriors become pretty dangerous for the playoffs. Sacramento gets couple of under 25 guys and a 1st. Toronto becomes:
Quick / Shead
Ochai (?) / Jakobe
Ingram / Gradey
Scottie / CMB
Sabonis / Mamu
If you can play Ingram at the SG for spot minutes, you can throw out a very lengthy team of Sabonis + CMB + Scottie + Ingram.
PS - this also ducks the tax.
