And a team with Bosh as our best player means we're a treadmill team (see Kobe, Pierce, McGrady et. al.)

.

the difference between the pistons core and the raptors core is experience and coaching.

Yes, at Bosh's age, Chauncey was a washout and Tayshaun was just getting his feet wet. If I recall, Rip also took until his third season in Washington to really start asserting himself.

So then, why can't we give our team more leeway? We know what they're capable of but, we also know that they are young and still relatively inexperienced. I think people tend to forget that we are not that far removed from broken lamps in hotel rooms, players lying on the court in the fetal position and "...the man in the middle, Rafael Araujo!".

It's not like our team isn't getting better or isn't going to get any better. It's not like Smitch is a 30-year coaching veteran that's just given up and is collecting a paycheque. Sure, it's nice to want short-term and long-term success but, growth is painful and we are going through some very painful growing pains right now.

And that's the thing that people need to bear in mind: Bosh (23 yrs old), TJ (24), and Bargs (22) each have the potential to improve their games greatly over the next 5-6 years.

Core players on elite teams are 3 tool players - they can score, rebound and defend. The exceptions that I can think of are Nowitzki and Nash.

I just don't see that in the Raptors' core, especially on the defensive side of the ball. They will improve but how much?

I think you are overstating our need for this to happen. I think the upcoming draft is quite important in nabbing a good player, because we don't have alot of ways to grab young talent anymore, but it isn't totally dependent on us becoming a contender.

Let's take a look at 2008-2009. Assuming, we make no moves this year.

We have our 1st Round pick
Expirings in Rasho, Parker, Garbajosa, Graham, Baston.
Ukic & Printezis Overseas, with a high probability of Ukic coming over next year.

That is a hefty amount of expirings. If we find a guy we want in the trade marker, we completely have the assets to make a move. Assuming Delfino & Jose are resigned also, you have some nice assets there.

Assuming TJ's health is ok, I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade revolving around Expirings, PG + 1st + Filler (Hump has good value as filler etc.) for a big name player. That's a fairly attractive package for a rebuilding team.

Getting a guy like Gallinari through some talk in his ear would be awesome though.

OJ Mayo is currently projected to go 10th on nbadraft.net

Dare I say it?

Here's to hoping USC sucks really badly this year and/or OJ Mayo has a horrible tourney and sucks in workouts.

Make it happen BC!

I think we should trade our first rounder for a young gut that has actuall "Potential". I dont know what Dorell Wright is doing on the heat, but i think they would be intrested in a Pick and a player for him.

No, we owe our 2nd Rounder this year to San Antonio. It was part of the Rasho trade.
