Have you ever seen the Wolves fans hating on his game? Until the last few games, he was frequently their biggest target of criticism. After all, if all of these guys are playing so well/worth so much, how can Minnesota be a four-win team?

Teams that lose have their fans hating...that's not surprising or unusual. And, as you may know from this board, the most vocal "fans" are often the least knowledgeable.

Fact: Rashad McCants leads the Wolves in Roland Rating.
Fact: Among regular rotation players, Rashad McCants leads the Wolves in +/-.
Fact: He's over 52% eFG%.

They can hate on his game all they want, but the guy can shoot, score, and defend, and is actually a decent passer (not his fault his team can't shoot). He's not a rebounder or an assist machine, and he's undersized height-wise for the position they have him at (starts at the 3 despite being about 6'3").

I like him...good scorer and it seems he also can pass the ball. But i think that if a trade were to happen BC would go after someone who is under the radar. Minni wouldnt give up one of their best scorers just for our garbage. Maybe a pick and some money(if we have any to give) would intrest them, then throw in a Maceo or Joey.

Leading the Wolves in Roland rating means nothing whatsoever. That team is terrible and nobody has a very good rating. Good for him that he's beating out Theo Ratliff, though. He IS a poor defender, too, even though he can look pretty good compared to his teammates who are almost all worse.

He's got the physical tools to be a good defender, but that doesn't make him one; he needs to mind for the defensive game and he doesn't have it at all. His passing is pretty much the same. He's capable of making great passes, but he very rarely does. Put him on a team where he was held accountable for playing within an offense and not given the green light to break plays and shoot whenever he wants to and his percentages would sink like a ston, too.

Playing on a bad team means everyone's ratings are low, yes. Being the best of the group means that, when he is playing, they are more improved than by the impact of any other player. This could not be true if he were a bad defender and a guy who makes the offense worse. The +/- bears this out as well. He is a very good man to man defender, but nobody does it alone in the NBA and the t-wolves are terrible, there's no help D and that makes defensive life difficult. Ask Ricky Davis what it's like to have Rashad hounding you for a game and see if he thinks the D isn't there.

As for your last comment, it makes no sense. You're saying that Rashad's bad shot selection leads to his high percentages, and if he played on a better teams with better players and better plays, his shooting would somehow get worse? What basketball planet are you on? His scoring numbers may come down but his efficiency should increase in your scenario. However, I wouldn't say he's "breaking plays and shooting whenever he likes," since he uses less than 14 possessions a game to shoot or get fouled shooting. And since only Craig Smith has a better PPS ratio on that team (of the guys who play), I would think he should be shooting MORE, not less.

I haven't seen McCants play D in the pros enough to comment on what he HAS been doing, but in terms of physical package, he has it in him to be a really good defender.

I will admit that I made my previous comments based on:
a) his team stinks
b) other than high scoring numbers, you don't see much else from him in the boxscores and
c) I didn't like his game previously (college and pro) and thought that he was selfish and undersized for his position having seen him in the pros.

But I've only seen him play about 1/2 game this season so my earlier criticism of him could be waaay off. While I'm still leaning towards him being one of those 'big scorer on a bad team' types, I'll refrain from making any further comments until I collect more evidence.
