And as hot as Hamilton was Tuesday -- he missed only one shot each in the first, second and fourth quarters -- the Raptors never wavered from their plan of playing him straight up. They never tilted the defense to give Hamilton a different look, nor did they double-team him.
"It wasn't really hard," Hamilton said. "I really didn't have any hard shots."
Point guard Chauncey Billups said he knew Hamilton was bound for a game like this sooner or later. Hamilton had shot a combined 10-for-32 in the previous two games entering Tuesday.
"He got it cooking," Billups said. "That was a real easy 39 for him tonight, man. He was just on fire. They were pretty much playing him straight up, and he was coming off, having some great looks. I couldn't believe he kept getting so open in that corner, especially after he was hitting so many. They never really changed up."
