Yes, yes I can. I can't blame him for wanting to play for a contender, or not wanting to play for a rebuilding team, but I can blame him for being extremely greedy and sulking his way to a 10million buyout.

Everything else I'd be completely cool with if he just manned up, forfeited what was left on his contract, and moved on. Instead, as someone else stated, he stole the money from this franchise and still got what he wanted, under the guise that he had health issues.

agreed.. i liked him up until his stunt with the Raps

Sorry, wasn't clear. I'll never knock Antoine of JWill. I've always just found those two funny because we always hear people talk about what it takes to build a winner. You need certain types of guys. You need all these pieces. Well, apparently teams should want Antoine Walker andd JWill because guess what, those guys were on championship teams. They obviously know how to play a role on a winner.

But I digress. My point was that Zo rode the backs of Shaq and Wade, the same way as those other guys on the team. So I don't give Zo's ring any credence when evaluating him for the hall of fame.

Sorry this does not help make Zo look good it just makes many Hall of Famers look bad. He told us that he was incapable of playing and then a few months later he's playing meaningful minutes for another team while we are carrying the tab. What chumps he made us into. Not only were we suffering the embarrassment of the Wiliams's being worth nothing, our other main asset from the trade is making us look like fools.

Did I expect him to play for us when he wasn't playing for NJ? Not really. Did I expect him to treat us with respect? Definitely. Why couldn't he have coached our big men while he was pretending to be suffering from a career ending medical condition? A quality person would have. He could have told us that he wouldn't play for us, but he would help our big men while he was awaiting a trade. That's what a a hall of fame quality type person would have done.

A quality person would have realized that there is give and take when you play in the NBA. The take is you get paid lots of money. The give is you honourably honour your contract and you accept that the team who pays your check is the one you owe your loyalty too. I guess my expecting that these players be men of honour is too much to ask?

Sorry, no sale.

Did Kevin Garnett, after years of playing for an inept basketball organization, ever go on strike, play half-assed to force a trade. No. Had Minnesota decided not to trade Garnett he would still be playing full tilt. Garnett is the example we should set for Hall of Famers.

Did Kobe Bryant, while in the midst of asking for a trade, ever reduce his level of play? No, he actually played better. He even went so far as to work one on one with Bynum.

In my mind.

Alonzo Mourning = Vince Carter

As for charity work, charity work does not get you into the hall of fame. If it did, Bill Gates would be there.

+1 - Great post.

2 seperate issues here:

1) Did Zo behave in a professional manner with the Raps? No chance.

2) Does he belong in the Hall? I think probably.

Personally, I'd rather be regarded as someone who demonstrates class and citizenship then have my name on a plaque in Springfield. Zo's move to Miami and winning that championship likely sealed his place in the later category - a decision he's probably quite comfortable with.

I'm not sure which situation better portrays Raps fans as jilted ex-lovers.

VC for breaking up with us, or 'Zo standing us up for a date that his matchmaking grandmother made for him.

The comment from Steve of Seoul is ridiculously mean-spirited. Of course Mourning didn't do charity work on behalf of kidney research and transplants before he was sick; he, like most of us, wasn't aware of the issues before he was sick.

I also look at celebrities/athletes who become spokesmen to a disease with a raised eye.

It's like it wasn't a big issue until they got it.

As much as I hate to say it, Zo gets in the Hall

That is a pretty ignorant statement. did you know it was an issue, until it somehow entered your life. Do you really expect people to sit on their computer and research big issues, then choose to donate money. No of course not, why dont you rip into Lance Armstrong for not starting up his foundation until after he got cancer.

You may not like the guy, you may think he's unprofessional, but you can't deny how many people he's helped

Alright that makes sense, but i know if i were put in that situation i cant say i would have acted differently, 10 mil is a lot of money.

I just hink he gets an unfair amount of hate around here. This situation is quite similar to the whole Kenny Anderson thing. the only difference is that we were able to trade anderson so it wasn't that stupid of a move. Babcock knew (or should have known) the risks of acuqiring Zo

heres my beef with Mourning

15 seasons in the NBA

Games Total: 15 x 82 = 1230

Actual games played: 838

the guy has played 68% of the games he could have and hes also never played a complete season.

his numbers were great for the first 8 years of his career

8 x 82 = 656

of which he played: 534 or 81% (not extremely bad i guess)

His Turnover rate was horrible, and his FT% is almost as sad as Shaqs

However, he does deserve to get in the HOF based on the first 8 years of his career because the guy was just unstoppable when healthy.
