Pursue Hermann this off-season?

Post#1 » by Anticon » Fri Jan 25, 2008 12:37 am

I know it's the obvious move (picking up the benchwarming Argentinian from Detroit) but Hermann might be an interesting player to have next year.

It depends of course, on Garbajosa's return, but I think Hermann could be a strong replacement for him if he doesn't return to form. If on the off-chance we lose Delfino, he could also help out there. He could be a solid backup for both forward spots.

As far as I can tell, his contract expires at the end of this season. Does anyone know if he's UFA or RFA? The Pistons have to re-sign McDyess this year, and given how conservative they are, I'd be surprised if they'd be interested in retaining him.

What do people think? We'd have to take all of this into account with efforts to re-sign Jose and Delfino.

Another jumpshooter? No thanks. I'd love a player like Scola though.

No thanks. We have enough shooters. I love them all, but adding any more would be a mistake... unless obvious improvements via trade. If we make any additions, they should be to strengthen the wing psitions, or to add a more physical big man

I wouldn't really say he can't defend he did a good job in the FIBA games. He's a vetern who knows how to make smart plays, I think Garbo is more savy and has a better IQ but Walter is more athletic and is a great energy guy. If we would get him for say $2 million or lower per season I am all in for that.

Nah, not interested. We already have a logjam at the forward positions and he's not an upgrade over anything we have now.

We have enough PF depth IMO. I rather bring in a center, and play Bargnani more at PF if we felt we needed to. Bosh, Bargnani, Garbo, Humphries, and MAceo is quite a bit of talent to have locked into the PF position already!!!

This is a horrible idea, he addresses absolutely none of our needs.

This is from Jonathan Givony's scouting report on Hermann in 2006 (which featured him alongside Parker and Garbajosa as a top 4 free agent in Europe):

It's a fair point, but I'm not sure what our needs are these days. Short of getting a more well rounded 3, a Josh Howard/Luol Deng type, which is unlikely, our biggest need is to have Bargnani play well. If TJ doesn't come back then we have more immediate needs at PG, but otherwise the roster seems fairly filled out to me.

NO! Absolutely no more players of his type. And you know what I mean.

We need athleticism and toughness.

But my point is that he's actually athletic - scouting reports describe him as a slasher.

It's up to BC and MG as to who's better, but I think we'll likely get Hermann or Nachbar this coming offseason. Gomes would be the most ideal big SF to get but his price might be a little high.

With Calderon and Delfino due for some raises, I'm not so sure we'll be spending the MLE this summer. Our roster's looking pretty full already.

I don't think Hermann is needed on this team at this point. We just wouldn't have the minutes for his skill set.

Right now BC should be looking for another rebounder to play inside and a third string point guard on the cheap.
