Our PG Situation

Post#1 » by Denisaur9 » Sat Jan 26, 2008 7:06 pm

What separates us from other teams is that we dont have a drop off from our starting to our Backup PG, which is a major luxury in the NBA.I wont lie I was open to the Idea of trading Calderon back in the early parts of the season when Ford was healthy, but with Ford out you get to see how important of a player Calderon is to this team and how much of a top tier PG Jose really is.

At the end of the Day the PG is what the QB is to football and what the Goalie is to hockey, they are a huge part of a teams sucess, and we have two of the top 10 PG's in the league(When Fords healthy).

Say we pay Calderon same as we payed Ford 8 Million per(which he is worth) that would mean we are paying our PG's a total of 16 million, but that is for a pure 48 Minutes of great guard play, I think thats really reasonable, I really hope MLSE doesnt cheap out and make it a priority to keep both.

I think when Ford is back that Calderon should start and ease Ford back in, let him be a boost off the bench and he'll put up 15 ppg easy playing against teh other teams back up's.

Lets look at which PG's are paid close to 16 Mil and if we would rather have Forderon than them...

PG Team Salary Rather Have

Stephon Marbury NY $19,195,312 No way
Jason Kidd NJ $19,728,000 No
Baron Davis GS $16,440,000 Good but no
Mike Bibby Sac $13,500,000 No
Allen Iverson(more SG) Den $19,195,312 Close,but No
Kirk Hinrich Chi $11,000,000 No
Steve Nash(steal at 11 mil) Pho $11,375,000 Yes,Best PG
Andre Miller Phi $10,771,666 No

That kind of put our PG situation in perspective and how lucky we are even if both are signed at 8 mil per, the question is would you rather have a Jason kidd for 35 mins a game at 19 mil or solid PG play all game for 16 mil?

ANd this isnt even taking into Consideration the salaries of those players mentioned backups.

So what do you guys think?

Appreciate the effort, but the topic has been well covered in the past.

And rapsrawkz, that's the most painful sarcasm that I have ever had to read.
