Calderon's issue is visibility and name recognition, or as Hollinger wrote, the only thing holding him from getting to the ASG may be that a lot of people don't associate him with their idea of an all star. Before one gets to the ASG, they have to become part of the all-star conversation, just as Bosh has to make himself part of the MVP conversation before he becomes a serious MVP candidate. It's about their position in the dominant basketball culture. I've noticed that the guys writing up Calderon are mainly the national media print/online columnist/analysts like Hollinger, Stein, Sheridan, Thomson, Dwyer. Calderon's name isn't mentionned by the former player/talking heads who dominate the TNT, ESPN, ABC broadcasts (Barkley, Miller, Jackson, Smith, etc.), for whom veteran plays like Kidd are guys they know, possibly played with in the league or on Team USA, etc. The former group are paid to know the league's yin and yang in detail, while the latter are paid to regale us with their opinions about the big stuff. Jose needs some visibility with the latter group, and that will take time.
