J.A Adande Chat ESPN
Heres some Raps related stuff from a Chat today.
Rob(Kenosha,WI): Who are your reserves for the All-Star game?
J.A. Adande: (3:27 PM ET ) Ok, we'll go at this and address the several Jose Calderon/all-star questions I've received. Let's consider who HAS to be on the team....
J.A. Adande: (3:27 PM ET ) Caron Butler has to be on there.
J.A. Adande: (3:28 PM ET ) Chauncey Billups
J.A. Adande: (3:29 PM ET ) Joe Johnson and Hedo Turkoglu
J.A. Adande: (3:29 PM ET ) and, yes, I'd say Calderon, just so the Canadians don't start massing on the border and plotting to annex the U.S. (the y've already surpassed our dollar)
J.A. Adande: (3:31 PM ET ) Paul Pierce and Rasheed Wallace
J.A. Adande: (3:31 PM ET ) we'll get back to this
Chris (Bradenton, FL): Canadians annex us, come on they could never live without the American NHL teams....
Anthony (Toronto): J.A., you forgot Bosh. Sub Bosh for Calderon or Turkoglu and we're good.
J.A. Adande: (3:36 PM ET ) There's room for Bosh on there. Especially with his commercial.
Dave (Toronto): What did you think of the Celtics/Raps game the other day? Was that a breakout game for Bargnani?
J.A. Adande: (3:48 PM ET ) We'll let our Canadian readers gloat for a little bit, with their stronger dollar and their big win in Boston. But really, I don't think that game means much in the long term. The Raptors aren't going to make 70% of their threes very often, and even on a night they did the Celts still had a shot at winning on their last possession
Dave (Portland): I think dave from toronto meant to say, "What did you think ABOOT the celts/raps game..."
J.A. Adande: (3:52 PM ET ) I get the feeling we're only 2 minutes away from some Terrance and Phillip posts
Brad(NM): How much would Damon Stoudamire improve the Celts?
J.A. Adande: (3:58 PM ET ) He could give them another scoring threat...a dependable one. But I really think he was at his best when he was the primary guy..especially back in the day in Toronto, when they ran everything for him. I'm not sure he'd be as effective as a third or fourth option
Gaurav, Mumbai: A few yrs ago there was some talk of the 2nd coming of the NBA's golden age, which was largely rubbished. But look around the league now and you have pretty much atleast 2 all-star candidates in every team. Apart from the established guys the up n comers include Calderon, Iguodala, R.Jefferson, J.Smith, Marvin Williams, Joe Johnson, D.Granger, D.Howard, Redd, Bogut, Hinrich, Deng, Gordon, G.Wallace, J.Rich, Al Jefferson, Rudy Gay, B.Roy, L.Aldridge, Oden, C.Booz, D.Will, K.Durant, Kevin Martin, M.Ellis, D.West, C.Paul, C.Kaman, C.Maggette, A.Bynum, J.Howard, D.Harris, T.Parker, Z.Randolph, C.Butler, etc. That is a pretty solid young core to add to all the youngish superstars we have. What're ur thoughts? Golden Age talk legit now?
J.A. Adande: (4:08 PM ET ) Wow. Mumbai....but as to your question, there's a tremendous amount of talent in the league right now. Probably as much as at any time. But there aren't any super teams. Did you notice that on that 10 greatest teams list that ran on .com and coast to coast there wasn't a single team from this decade? not the three-peat Lakers or the Spurs. The reason this isn't quite the same as the 80s is because of expansion. Imagine if you took away the Hornets, Magic, Raptors, Heat and Grizzlies and scattered those players around the league. Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade, Bosh and Calderon, Gasol...at least one of those players would end up on an already good team and then you'd have a super squad
J.A. Adande: (4:14 PM ET ) I was looking for a good question to go out on, but didn't see it, so to finish off on our Canadian theme for today I'll finish post this lengthy argument on behalf of Jose Calderon. And speaking of all-star games and things that are dear to our northern neighbors, do any of you non-Canadians know where the NHL all-star game is this year? I have to admit, I had no idea until I checked into a hotel this week and saw a bunch of signs and banners announcing its presence.
Goodbye, eh?

Toronto: It's well known at this point, that only six players have averaged an assist-to-turnover ratio higher than 5 to 1 since the stat has been kept. One thing that I haven't heard mentioned though, is that Jose is currently the only player in the NBA averaging a 900/500/400 (over .900 free throw percentage, over .500 field goal percentage and over .400 three-point percentage). In fact, if Jose managed to keep this up, he's become only the 6th player in NBA history to achieve this feat. Nowitzki did it last year (won MVP), Nash did it in 05-06 (won MVP), Reggie Miller did it in 93-94, Bird did it twice, 86-87 (won MVP) and 87-88, and Mark Price did it in 88/89. No one has ever posted a 5-1 ratio AND 900/500/400. How can anyone argue that this guy doesn't belong in the All Star game?
