And Yao had and still has an advantage over everybody else in the form of 5-6 inches, making it easier to impact the game and grab boards... If he was 7 feet I think he'd be fairly average to below average...Bargs is the size of an average center, maybe a little weaker and lighter.. And he has to become a defensive minded anchor at the C when he's the complete opposite as a player... Plus the team as a whole is already soft plus we have a finesse PF, which highlights his weaknesses even more...

The only thing that was harder for Yao was the intense media pressure from China and the rest of the league... Bargs isn't facing that type of pressure, and maybe never will... Aside from that I would say Bargs has a lot more obstacles and is being asked to do a lot more than he might be capable of at the moment...

You made it sound like it's impossible for Bargs to play defense at all... by your logic no player other than shaq should play center.

I'd eat crow if he ever manages to drop 18/8 during his career in Toronto.

?? What did I say that was wrong?

Can you tell me anything thats incorrect about this assessment of Bargs? Is he not an offensive minded player who is the exact opposite of a hard nose defensive player? Is he not the size of an average center? And doesn't our team's softness highlight his weaknesses since we have no big rebounding and intimidating defensive guys?

And whatever 'logic' you derived from my post has nothing to do with any other players in the league... there are no players with the specific kind of strengths and weaknesses that Barg has in the NBA... There are different types of players with different types of strengths and weaknesses, some are able to play in the post better than others... Bargs is not one of the better post players at this point...

What you said is not relevant to my post, I have no idea where you got it from...

Charles Barley " If yao ming scores 19 points i will kiss your ass"

next game yao scores 19 pts

Shaq " tell yao ching chang wo "

next game vs shaq, yao blocks shaqs first 4 shots, it was that game that i knew yao ming would be a great player.

Yao was much better in his first and second season than bargs

Isn't that what you were saying? Bargnani can't play C cuz he's weak and soft. Were you concluding that 1) it's entirely management's fault for putting him in that position where it was clear that he's gonna struggle and fail 2) if he were to succeed, it'd take him much more time

I just thought that was a lopsided assessment, his size is not an disadvantage, at 7 feet , 250 pounds, even IF you call that average, you still can't blame that for his struggles. Yes, he's not a hard-nose defensive player, but how hard is it to learn to box out your man on D and grab a rebound without fumbling the ball out of your hands? I'm not trying to pose an end-it-all arguement on Bargnani's problem, I just thought you shouldn't compeletly discredit Yao for his achievement and at the same time defending Bargs on his less-stellar 2nd year stat.

The only thing giving me hope that Bargs will be a solid player in this league are his 'few-and-far-between' signs of brilliance.

Yao was consistently solid and sometimes dominant, even in his rookie and soph seasons.
