Makes sense for everyone. Mavs would be too much in red if they trade for kidd without giving up Diop as they'll need to sign him after this season.. so might as well, cash up on him and get value instead of letting him walk.. the way Bass has matured, they really like him and would most likely keep him around. Also, Fazekas has been tearing up the Dleague off-late, so he could be in their future plans too.

Portland has a LOT of young players coming in, Rudy, Kaponen, Oden are all coming next year and not to mention their own first and second round picks for next year. They NEED to get rid of players, so might as well cash on them instead of letting them walk..

THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS IS THAT IF KIDD GETS TRADED BEFORE THE ALLSTAR BREAK, JOSE IS A LOCK TO MAKE THE TEAM.. LOL

I would be shocked if Cuban give away Devin Harris. He has said that he is the untouchable along with Dirk, when they are in the hunt for Kobe. Right now, I would rather have Harris than Kidd.

This trade would win Dallas the title. Its a move like this that can put a team over the top. The WEST is so close right now, so tight, one big splash can make that difference. Cuban has to decide, hold onto Harris, or go for it now, and next year, while still not blowing up the roster.

I think too many people are looking at Kidd's reputation instead of how far he's slipped the past 2 seasons.

IMO, this trade, if it includes Dallas giving up Harris and Stack would cement Dallas as a 1st round causality in the loaded west this season.

Just read Marc Stein on ESPN discussing this and he mentioned that IF Stack went to NJ he would then be bought out.

Marc Stein wrote:It's believed that the Nets would immediately buy out Stackhouse and release him if the proposed deal wound up going through.

Anyone see a fit for him here? I was interested in him this summer.

Hmm, just looked at his contract again and he's on the hook for about another $16M for the next two seasons. That would be a hell of an expensive buyout.

More players, including other Nets, would be involved. Bergen Record

Stackhouse's contract is going to kill the Nets but he would be a good replacement to Vince as a sixth man.

Makes sense for Dallas. Harris might be young, but he's not incredibly talented. He'd be a great fit in Portland, because they already have a play-maker for the future in Roy, and a defensive/efficient player like Harris is exactly the type to put next to him. Sort of like Parker and Ginobili.

But for Dallas, they are contending right now, so youth doesn't really matter. And even if they were going to rebuild, going forward with a mediocre PG with a big contract who can't make plays like Harris doesn't make a lot of sense. J-Kidd is perfect for them. He's a leader and one of the toughest players in the NBA. He's the type of guy you need on a team that has a knack for going soft whenever it gets tough. I don't know about giving up Diop though. If they could replace Diop with someone else, like Ager or a pick, this would be perfect for them.

Nets holding out for more re: Kidd ??????

Post#51 » by bobbyp3588 » Fri Feb 1, 2008 12:39 pm

So, apparently the Nets are holding out for more than what's been proposed in a 3 way trade with Dallas and Portland.

Now, IMO, Kidd should be worth maybe Jarrett Jack and Travis Outlaw plus a large or a couple of smaller expirings to balance out the contracts.

Apparently, Rod Thorn isn't even satisfied with Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George, Channing Frye, Jarrett Jack and Travis Outlaw in return for Kidd!!!
What??? He must be mad as a hatter.

As a Raps fan, all I can say is thank God. In this scenario the Nets get way better in the long haul. In Frye, Jack and Outlaw they would be picking up 3 really promising young players, who are all going to be very serviceable NBA players, maybe even Stars ( esp. Outlaw and Frye ). They would get younger, and undoubtably better for years to come. All this for an old, injury prone (back, knees) over the hill all-star who has at best 1.5 decent years left.

I'm really hoping this turns out to be one of those situations where a team really over values their own player, hold out for more than what's being offered, and ends up getting way less than expected, in the end. A deal like this, or one that's even better for the Nets and the Raps might be looking up the standings at them for the foreseeable future ( not including this year).

To think Thorn got VC for absolutely nothing and expects to get the world for Kidd...unbelievable!

Kidd is going to wind up stuck in Jersey and make Thorn's life absolutely miserable. I don't think Thorn is the kind of GM who is willing to dump a star for significantly less than he's worth. Dallas would be completely stupid to give up Harris and Stack for Kidd and that team isn't stupid. Thorn missed his chance to get value for Kidd the past couple of seasons. I suspect Ainge would have preferred Kidd to Allen, for example, but even a 5th pick or a guy like Rondo doesn't seem like it'd be enough for Thorn.

The Nets aren't going to get major value for Kidd. He's too old, on the decline and clearly doesn't have many years left. He arguably isn't even a top 5 PG in the NBA any more. The Nets certainly won't get any value for Vince. I don't think any team will even give up what the Thorn gave Babcock for him at this point. They could get value for Jefferson but they won't do it. It looks like the Nets are set to join the Knicks for a few seasons while they wait for Kidd and VC to leave.
