Jamario Moon wins Eastern Conference rookie of the month!!!!

Overall a really great month. And I still think he has more tools to unleash - particularly his jumper that looked a lot better in January than it did earlier in the season. If he can keep that up and develop some kind of creativity driving to the basket, he can be a truly complete player.

But even if he doesn't do that - even if he can just keep up the FG% off what he does, he is still a very valuable player to have.

In their last 10 games, the Raps are 2nd in the league in +/- at +10.2 - they were 7th best in points scored and 7th best in points allowed.

Its also interesting to note that in their last 7 games, Raps shot .471 from beyond the arc. That in itself is astounding. But also, while doing that, they were 10th best in holding opponents to only .345 from 3.

Because of guys like Moon, Parker, Delfino and Humphries, the Raps have really shed their image as a purely offensive team. Now you have to contend with their shooting, but you also know you are going to face a tough night on the offensive end - at least if you are a swingman.

We are still pretty soft in the middle, but its not showing up as much because of the strength of our perimeter D - and its all really anchored by Moon.

What makes Moon so valuable is that he can basically go one on one against almost anyone you can throw at him at his position. That frees the defense up tremendously, since on most teams, the swingman is a primary scorer. The ability to shut that guy down is invaluable - Bruce Bowen, Tayshaun Prince, Trevor Ariza - there aren't that many guys who can do it on a nightly basis - but Moon is certainly one of them.

Let's not forget Delfino. I don't think either of Moon/Delfino are on par with those guys, but they're both only one rung below! And both of their rebounding makes the raps that much better too.

Other than Kapono, who only plays limited minutes anyways it seems (and only against certain matchups), the worst defender a good swingman is going to see is Parker, who would be the best defender on lots of teams around the L (swingman wise).

Moon's been great, Just hope he keeps rebounding and blocking/changing shots. Hasnt had many blocks lately. Not surprising people as much anymore.

I don't think eiMoon is on par with Bowen or Prince, but he's certainly as good as Ariza - cept of course Ariza is only 22.

But I would say he has the potential to be just as good as either - and keep in mind that Prince and Bowen have never been particularly great rebounders - and neither gets the steal or block numbers that Moon is putting up - at least when you look at his month of January.

The thing about both Bowen and Prince is that they made names for themselves in the playoffs, when defense is key. So, for example, were young Jamario to, in a first round series against Cleveland, manage to keep LeBron James under wraps, for example, that would go a long way towards building his reputation.

I'd also add that he should be better after a full season of NBA play - he will have more familiarity with opposing players and with officials.
