at least they're trying????

I'm from Winnipeg. In Winnipeg, we tried. and if we failed, no one cared because we were a city of 650 000 and a minor-league city.

This is Toronto. in Toronto, you don't try. you succeed, or you fail.
and when you are in one of the largest cities in North America, "trying" doesn't cut it.

I don't understand why they can't just do this during halftime or at the end of the game.

Hear hear. Toronto is a center of broadcasting - so Raps broadcasts should be as good as an American ones. They should be much better than they are, production-wise.

I wouldn't mind the segment if they did it during an actual break but I don't wanna see anything other than live action if the games going on.

Its that horrible producer they have. Dan Glavin I think his name is. He's the guy that Leo Rautins is going to beat up on Full Court Press. This guy couldn't produce a kids elementary school play.

Game is The Thing!!!

Post#26 » by Dino Nation » Sat Feb 2, 2008 3:36 pm

I studied broadcasting and have worked in both T.V and Radio to a lesser degree. But the first rule of sports broadcasting is the GAME is the #1 priority anything else is SUPPOSE to enhance the game. With this new feature that clearly failed. Not that it was bad info provided but once the game is in play no one cares about what is being said. Poor thinking on part of production staff. Not unlike that almost unreadable graphic score display at the start of the season. They try to hard to make things more complicated with Raps TV simple is better.

you people fail to realize that the actual "production" of the game is done by Dome Productions. The in game segment with Sherm, and the simultaneous condensed version of the game, was likely done, by dome. The game feed is sent VIA fibre line to Raptors TV, who in turn broadcasts it out.

What was off for Raptors TV was the time allocated for Sherm. They consistently had to much video and where forced to cut over game time for him to finish explaining.

Overal it was a nice segment and a good effort to improve the game. You can tell that this year the bar has been raised with the panel. They don't joke as often as they used to, and when they do, usually guys like PJ and Sherm try and bring it back on track. I think they where told to clean it up and make it more professional in the off-season. Sherman Hamilton in particular has seemingly been given the green light on breaking plays down. In years past his answears where very generic and not terriably informative. This year he is really dissecting and breaking plays down. I've enjoyed his analysis.

I agree, though was mixed. Though Sherm's analysis was good the fact the game continued and was interrupted was inexcusable. I've been complaining for the last 4 weeks about their use of replay also cutting off live play, but I guess they wanted to spice that up with Sherm and botch that as well. Just brutal.

ESPN does in-game analysis by having a commentary guy that knows basketball - Hubie Brown or Doug Collins. Leo couldn't analyze his way out of a paper bag if he had a friggin' map.

It may be unfair to compare Leo to 2 of the best analysts on the big money US networks (and ex-NBA coaches to boot), but it's true he is terrible. It's such a shame we can't hear Jack Armstrong more often instead - he has that American, ex-coach type authoritativeness. Plus he's short and to the point instead of droning on like Leo.
