I would like to know what is the difference between a "player option" and an "early termination" in a player's contract. Marion has an "early termination" clause this summer for his last year.
Thx a lot.

A player option is something a player has to pick up in order to keep the contract going. An early termination clause cuts an existing contract short. They can be either a team clause, or a player clause though, and I'm not sure which one Marion's is. They are usually player early termination clause's, meaning he can opt out of his contract next summer.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

There's no such thing as a team's right to exercise an ETO. The ETO is always the player's decision.

True. I lumped team options into the early termination clause.

Anyway, there's the link that answers everything in stupid detail.
