Triano takes his place in history in stride

The first Canadian to be a head coach in an NBA game took it just as the stereotype would suggest: Nothing to get too excited about, it's not about me, one game in 82.
In essence, Jay Triano, who will stand in for head coach Sam Mitchell when the Raptors take on the New Jersey Nets tonight, was embarrassed by the attention his nationality was bringing him.

Triano to become first canadian head coach in an NBA game
Triano will be the headcoach tomorrow instead of Mike Evans.

They did it because Jay Triano was assigned to scout the nets, similarly Mike Evans was the head scout for the spurs game. Basically their is no hierarchy to the Raptors assistants and who ever was in charge of preparing the gameplan for the opposing team was going to be named acting head coach while Sam is away.
I'd love to see the raptors win-loss percentage based on who scouted the gameplan for the previous opponent. These are the type of statistics Mike Grange needs to publish in his blog.

well, if Triano did the Nets, and Evans did the Spurs, you can assume that they've gone in the same order all season, meaning English did the Twolves game. So someone more bored than I could go back through the schedule and note the assistant who scouted for each game, then compile the records.

I could be wrong, but I think the coaches get assigned teams to scout at the beginning of the season. So, Evans would always scout the Spurs, Triano would always scout the Nets, and so on.
That way they could watch every game that team plays, but not have to do it all over again every time they play that team. It's probably a running thing that gets more attention as a game with that team approaches. I wonder if they scrap the scouting once the Raptors have played all of their games vs. one opponent though.
