To bring the Raptors into the mix, this proposed trade has been great for them.

Kidd misses the game in Toronto on Wednesday, there's a chance that the deal as advertised was the best that NJ was going to get, and it now appears obvious that the Nets want to start over, which has to be terrible for morale.

Altogether pretty sweet.

No its not allowed. To quote the NY Post which has now weighed in on this:-

In the most recent collective bargaining agreement, that 30-day time frame was established to impede teams from making side arrangements in order to circumvent salary-cap rules. A desirable player is included in a package (Gary Payton is the poster player) to make a deal (Boston to Atlanta) work contractually, is waived and then re-signed by the team that traded him.

I'd like to have the league investigate whether Alonzo Mourning had assurances from Miami that they would sign him if he forced the Raptors to buy him out.

Probably not. Thorn will probably take scrubs and picks for Wince right now.

Its basically coersion...

League should get to the bottom of this... Imagine if 2 owerns/GM's got together to make similar trades, setting 1 team up for a championship, and 1 as a lotto team .... splitting the profits lol .... maximize shareholder value lol ...... but that couldnt happen in the NBA... could it?

It is tampering to negotiate a deal with a player who is on another team. Tampering by NJ by arranging a Buyout with Stackhouse before the trade and tampering by the Mavs by negotiating a deal (the Dallas return) with Stackhouse while he would be a Net.

The 30-day thing is not enough. I'm pretty sure in Baseball it's a season before you can return to a team that just traded you and you want to return to as a waived player.

Stackhouse only had to keeping his mouth shut. He's still a solid player and if waived by NJ and he refuted any and all offers by good teams, waited 30 days, and resigned with Dallas the "plot" would have been uncovered. Just about every playoff team would have thrown all they could at him.... Cleveland for sure, heck even Boston.

McHale-Ainge anyone? Jerry West unseen involvement in the Gasol deal perhaps?

What would be even funnier is if the trade doesnt go through yet Stern still penalizes the Mavs and the Nets for trying to circumvent the salary cap. What they tried is clearly against the rules.

I am sure Jason Kidd is in the mood to assault Jerry Stack right now.

As much as I think Cuban is good for the league. I also think he's a weasel too!!!

This whole thing doesn't look good for the NBA and hope they stop this and penalize Stackhouse and the Mavs.

Both sides of this trade just got excited way too quickly and now its going to bite them in the arse. I mean the NJ announcers during our game kept talking about it as though it was complete and they were announcing it. Well the league hasn't received official papers so that's against the CBA. Stackhouse kept yapping about coming back in 30 days that's also wrong.

Then the whole Devean George debacle, no side sat down and hammered it all out and ironed it out. Now they could lose more than they imagined (particularly Dallas). If Stern wanted to be strict and some would argue fair he would give the same punishment Minnesota got for the under the table deal with Joe Smith. Loss of 4 first round picks and a $1 million fine.

Rod Thorn worked as the NBA's Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations from 1986 to 2000. Wonder if that will come into play.

According to sources, they've decided that Stackhouse can be traded but as punishment he is not allowed to sign with Dallas after his memorandum period.

This could really kill the Kidd deal

Good. I thought it was stupid years ago when it happened with Gary Payton and I think it is stupid now. Whether he said anything or not, the league should never have allowed Stackhouse to join the Mavs this season after a buyout.
