Toronto is gonna apply once Maple Leaf Square is complete. probably 2011 as you said. And we'll probably get it right away.
We have the media facilities, hotels etc etc etc, and we haven't hosted it yet.
edit - MLSE is gonna apply, not the City of Toronto

If we hosted the Olympics and the world got to see what our city has to offer, our noteriety changes internationally. Jobs would be created, tourism, everything would jump substantially, making everything else in that poll possible.
For one thing, Toronto would have to build an entirely new stadium.. since what we have isn't big enough for all the track events. We'd get an Olympic size stadium, which could possibly host an NFL team in the future, because the Roger's Centre is too small for that. (Realistically, with a maximum capacity of 50,000, our beloved Skydome would instantly become one of the smallest stadiums in the NFL). The ACC would have be to be upgraded, which would open up NBA All-Star, NHL All-Star possibilities.
More professional-quality soccer sites would be built (other than BMO field), opening up possibilities for FIFA coming out here and even 'considering' us as a possible location for a tournament.
I agree with everything here.... Toronto would be put on the International map and instantly would become a household name for a global city. If u get the Olympics, all the other options and more become more likely to happen, with the amount of upgrades and developments that would happen. Roads and Traffic would need to be upgraded, the dock/ waterfront improvements would have be a go, and that new stadium would be WORLD CLASS.... being able to hold track, soccer and football.... if your a sports fan the olympics will bring the QUALITY of all summer sports in all events up, and it could last for decades once the gov backs it up .... which tends to happen, cuz you dont want the home team to come away empty on your home soil ......... oh wait didnt that happend before in 1976????

But truthfully, the summer games cost a TON.... and yea the summer games dont really make money. But the city waste a ton load of money as well. ... Hell I think one of the only Olympics to actually make money was when LA hosted it in 1984 for the 2nd time. No one even wanted the games after Montreal overspent ridiculusly.

Personally, I can't stand any of the all star games except for Baseball where they at least have something to play for. Honestly, I'd much rather catch a regular season game than watch two hockey or basketball teams flounders around the court/ice.
The olympics would be amazing, and by far my first choice.

Hey, I was all for the Olympics until I found out how currupted and political the games are. As for putting our city on the map if the Summer Games did come here, I doubt it. Many times the Olympics put a huge strain on the economy after its gone. For example, Montreal, Sarevjo, Athens, Atlanta, etc. Only the really, really big cities can handle them. Toronto is not reallt that big compared to the other world renowed cities (Toronto is ranked 50th).
