Two first round picks AND we take on Tim Thomas's contract, all for a Maggette spring rental? No way.

Exactly. That's moronic. On July 1 he walks, and we're out two picks and stuck with TT's contract. One pick and no TT, and I'd at least consider it. Remember, to keep Maggette, he expects a big raise, probably into the $10-12 million range. With Jose's extention and a raise of that kind for Maggette, we would be paying a lot of luxury tax, and that would be without TT's contract. For a Maggette trade to make sense, especially with those draft picks, the Clippers would have to take more 08-09 salary, not just Joey.

I agree, I ONLY do this move if it puts the Raps over the top as a prime contender for the title....which it obviously does not.

Who cares about 2009 free agents?

Its far more likely that we are going to trade one or more of our expirings next year for a player under contract a la the Lakers and Gasol.

Of course, who we trade for and who we acquire will depend on how much salary we are willing to take on, but I'd still say its far more likely that we will do that then wait and try to sign someone via FA.

How about we get a player that's under radar at the moment like Dorell Wright or Ruben Patterson...I can't see Artest on this team, but Corey would make this team the top team in the east, with 20 of our FT coming from two players, it could open space for Andrea, AP or Kapono.

We dont really need a banger that's a PF or C...Ruben, Corey and Artest are all bangers and any of them would give this team what we need which is a tough mentality, and a bit of competition would put Chris on his heels making him prove himself clutch or whatnot.

Elson getting the MLE?? You must be kidding. He is making $3M this season for the Spurs and riding the bench because he is really stupid. Think the extreme opposite of Rasho.

Grange is an idiot. The raptors don't need to make a bold move. Our team is young and developing and we don't need to make any changes. Its not like we're a veteran team and this is our last shot at a title, even though it seems like most of you think that way. We're fine right now.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what Grange is saying?

The Raptors have long needed a rugged, scoring small forward (Ron Artest? Corey Maggette?) and a ball-chasing, floor-running big man. But they haven't added either yet because they sense that it's simply not their time yet.

Try reading the article and you might have a different perspective on who is the real idiot here.

That would be incredible amusing if Darrick blocked a blockbuster deal.

The reaction on this board would be the best.

Then give him part of the MLE. I honestly wouldn't trust Greg Poppovich's judgement on a player though. The guy may be a great defensive coach, but he plays guys who hustle over talented players all the time. Like Vaughn over Udrih, BONNER over Elson, etc.

Why would you trust Poppovich's judgment on a player? I mean, he's only won 4 NBA titles in the past 9 years.

Wow, umm he does it because they're system isn't based on talent. It's based on players going 150% and maximizing their talent and playing within the system. He never says the players are not talented they're just not playing within his expectations and system. That's what makes him a great coach. The guy has 4 titles in 9 years and through the crap of the league has kept an extremely solid team that has been a threat to win every year for the past decade.
