As soon as the dunk happened (or maybe the Davis interview, whichever was first, sadly), I knew this thread would get bumped.
The "guys in the truck" need to be re-trained.

I completely agree with OP.
I know the budgets are vastly different, but look at the quality of NCAA tournament coverage vs. a typical Raptor game. Or any big NBA game on TNT. You get logical camera angles, and instant replays at just the right moment.
Raptors TV production often misses key replays. Like Amir Johnson will reject a shot and get called for the foul. Jack will say "tough call on Johnson there, looked like he avoided contact and made a clean block." Camera zooms on on player that drew the foul. Some inane graphic pops up about something else. Now opposing player is shooting free throws (opportunity for replay is gone).
I have a PVR so I just rewind that and see if Amir got hosed but otherwise you would miss it.
NCAA tournament games and TNT games would be all over that replay in an instant.

Re: The "guys in the truck" let us down each and every night
Didn't read the entire op but there's instances when coming out of a timeout, Devlin and Jack will start talking about a certain player on the bench and the camera crew automatically zooms into that player, WHILE THE BALL IS IN PLAY!! I hate that.
I always feel that when they use the awkward camera angles, it jinxes the raptors like the opposing team will score on us or we'll turn the ball over, miss a shot etc.

Re: The "guys in the truck" let us down each and every night
Last night's dunk was a perfect example. The guys in the truck need to go back to their notes to find out why they agreed to that low, far angle in the first place. When someone proposed it, what were they hoping to show the tv audience? If you have an angle that can't show a possible dunk of the year, then it must not be a very good angle to use.

Re: The "guys in the truck" let us down each and every night
I don't mind the low angle they use once in a while. Obviously it's more suited for the ball swinging side to side, or baseline screens and such, Demar's dunk would have looked way better on the normal angle, but they didn't know it was going to happen. I'm more pissed off at how they have to zoom in on Ed Davis for a WHOLE POSSESSION when he blocks a shot, and you can't **** see what's happening on the floor at all, for **** sakes.

The problem is the producers and the networks don't give a crap about basketball. They use the broadcast to try their crazy experiments. The networks broadcast Raptor games to fulfill CRTC requirements. If you saw the same ridiculous camera angles during a hockey game, the producer would have been fired on the spot, and the government would have launched a parliamentary inquiry.

If it's mediocre service you can bet it's MLSE approved.

The producer's trying out tricks in an attempt to build up his repertoire. It's a veritable testing ground for zany auteurism. I'm just waiting for the day when in the middle of the broadcast the sound suddenly flips, to be replaced by a high pitched whine and intermittent flashes of Dinosaur Pterodactyl Porn and Jack Armstrong yelling OLLEH! Over and over again.

I complain about the "guys in the truck" at least once a game. Yesterday's complaint was the camera angle on DeRo's dunk on Tyrus.
Great first post by OP by the way.

The only chance we have is if Rogers buys MLSE and brings in their own staff.

Last night was yet a whole new level of incompetence, didn't think they could do it, but they did. I'm impressed.

The Raptors had 3 seconds left on the shot block after the timeout. The camera was focusing on Bargnani when the Raptors committed a 24 second violation......another disappointing night by the guys in the truck.
