I think Nash either stays in PHX or goes to a contender. His life is in PHX right now. He isn't going to chase the money like Turk did. He only leaves there if he wants the chance at a ring. I see NYK or DAL as strong options for him due to history there, and as MIA and OKC and CHI don't really need him and might be difficult fits.

A little OT, but I never thought Irving would come into the league and put up better numbers than John Wall in his second year. I thought Irving looked good based off what little I've seen in his college/high school years but I never thought he'd be doing this good. Also thought Wall had the versatility and speed to put up good numbers even though he plays on a god forsaken team. :s

One thing I've noticed is that Kyrie Irving has ridiculously good handles, especially in comparison to a guy like John Wall.

Hesitations, crossovers, spins.. he already seems like Tony Parker-lite and will undoubtedly overtake him over the next couple of years and who knows after that. He is faster than I thought he'd be as well.

Wall on the other hand really does need to get that first step on the defender or else he's got nothing yet. Not to say he can't get any better obviously a jump shot would make a world of difference but it just goes to show how skilled Irving really is at a young age.

he's super impressive.

Personally, I can't see why Nash would give up money to go to play for a dysfunctional team like the Knicks. They aren't going to be NBA champions anytime soon.) But there is also the notion of solidifying his Canadian brand. If the rumours of Nash GM'ing the Canadian national program have any truth to them, then playing for Toronto is not as outrageous as it seems. Nash strikes me as someone who thinks about his legacy and finishing out his career in Canada would be a brilliant (and very lucrative) career move. He is going to be a force in basketball well after he retires--he could pretty much write his own ticket in Canada or in Phoenix. Canada is a bigger platform than Phoenix for the issues he seems to care about. The guy could be running MLSE and become one of the most authoritative voices in sports--globally--within a decade if he wants to....

I'm all for that idea. I'd like to pick up a young pg, have Nash mentor them for a few years.

We are not retiring the number of a player on a two year deal just because he took us to the playoffs... even if it is Steve Nash.

imo if the best and by far most respected baller in Canadian history retires a Raptor after a couple of high-quality years here we will almost certainly retire his jersey.

But if he came I believe he could give us 2 seasons as a top 5-PG in the league and a couple more as a top-10. Well worth it.

Just a question for mods, and I'm not ragging on anyone,
but normally when someone makes a claim to have a source,
mods lock the thread until the source is confirmed privately.

Still waiting for someone to say the source has actually
been confirmed.

Great veteran, future hall-of-famers like Nash don't grow on trees. He is respected throughout the league, and would go a long way in establishing a benchmark for the type of hard work and professionalism that is required for someone to have a long and successful career in the league. Having him on the team could be huge for the development of guys like DeRozan, Valanciunas, Davis, and our 2012 pick. He could be a great mentor to a young PG prospect too.

But don't let that get in the way of your idea of multiple years of basement-dwelling.

I can see Nash coming in a number PG scenario's but we would need a young apprentice type PG.

If with Bargs we slip to 8th or 9th I can see us talking Lillard he isn't rated that high but worth the gamble.

If we luck out and get A. Davis trade him to NOs and get there 2 draft picks getting Barnes+= either Lillard or Kabongo

Or do a trade with Cleveland with Davis + DD for Cleveland's 1st Draft Beal & Lillard this might be my favorite scenario

PG Nash, Lillard
SG Sonny, Beal forbes
6th man Bayless or Barbosa
SF Chandler,JJ, Klieza
C JV, Amir, Gray
PF Bargs, Davis, Nicelson if available 2nd round

That team is good enough to be a top 4 in the East the only 2 you can consider better would be Chicago & Miami but the Raptors would have superior depth. The only rookie who would be be under pressure would be JV with Beal & Lillard getting back-up rolls.

Dr Mufasa wrote:BC doesn't make moves that are obviously idiotic, he makes moves that are sneakily futile. More likely Wilson Chandler or Jameer Nelson 40 mil contract to go along with a pick at PG/SF. So BC adds something like Lillard, Chandler and Valanciunas or Nelson, Barnes and Valanciunas to this roster and claims we're a playoff team

I don't know why you keep bringing up Jameer Nelson. Doesn't really seem like a guy BC would go after for big money (wouldn't leave Dwight and Orlando for less than MLE). Especially with Jose on the roster. You really think he would let Bayless walk for half the money while paying another mediocre PG Jose money? At least Nash would be an obvious upgrade, so I can see BC throwing him a two year contract (though BC's history does seem to suggest he doesn't really know how to dish out short contracts).

And if you can make the playoffs with a top 5 pick, Jonas, DD, and Ed Davis as major contributors, it's not like that would be the worst thing in the world. If you don't think any of those pieces are anything special than you package any 2-3 of them (with or without our 2013 pick) for a guy you can happily build around. There has to be a point where you stop pinning your hopes on the chance of lucking into a top 3 pick.
