or is the log jam at 4 that bad, that we look for a player that doesn't play the 4?

I can't imagine all of Gray, Magloire, Alabi, Davis and Amir will all be back next season.

Acy is a worker with a great motor who is undersized as all heck;
But if he is on the board @ 50 its worth some consideration.

Bye bye to these two....
While Gray and Davis remain, I see Amir out....maybe...

Magloire is staying for 100%! Where have you been? Don't you know about the mentoring job?

What's funny is that I had lunch with Terrence Ross' agent yesterday. We talked about every possible scenario. Toronto never came up.

I feel like Scott Machado is such a Colangelo pick, he's a pure pg who shoots well but has questionable foot speed on defense. I could also see Doron Lamb getting picked by the Raps as well as he's an undersized 2 guard who fills a need with his 3pt shooting, especially if Bayless doesn't get resigned.

Why? The odds on him being the next in the line of Syracuse busts is pretty favorable; w/ the exception of Carmelo (who was a bigtime talent prior to heading to upstate NY) and maybe Rony Seikaly/Derrick Coleman, Jim Boeheim's track record of producing pro talent who successfully contribute is poor: Johnny Flynn, Hakim Warrick, John Wallace, Pearl Washington, Sherman Douglas, LEO RAUTINS, etc.

Sherman Douglas a flop? Guy was a second rounder and had a 12 year career, scored over 8000 points, and had over 4500 assists. Not bad for a second rounder. Warrick has carved out a seven year career so far. About what is expected from an 18th pick.

As for the rest... other then Flynn they were mid firsts that didn't really succeed. Can add Leron Ellis (who was a bust before he even stepped into the NBA), Etan Thomas and Billy Owens (injuries however). Not a strong pedigree, but only one really high bust in Flynn.

But I would not use that to judge a second rounder. Boehiem has had a number of non first rounders have extended careers in the league -- Schayes, Addison, Douglas, Hart. I am still not a fan of Joseph at the next level.

And it certainly would not stop me from picking Dion Waiters in the mid first if I was in the lotto.

Evan Fournier
Jae Crowder
Will Barton
Tomas Satoransky
Scott Machado
Eric Griffin

But you know there will be a guy long expected to be in the 1st rd that drops and I just hope we're the ones lucky enough to have someone with potential injury fears (QMiller like DBlair) or a guy who may be a project (ie/ Leonard like Whiteside) fall to us.

I love Fournier. I think he'll be a good player and if he slips in to the second round I look at him for sure. Another guy would be Van Oostrum. Perfect draft and stash player with a great game. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely sure that he's declaring.

Another good guy would be Doron Lamb. I believe he's a lock to become an NBA rotation guy. Can shoot, handle and slash pretty well. PG/SG. Also, there's William Buford. Good defender and shooter. Should be a pretty good role player at the next level.

I don't like bigs out of the second round because they almost never pan out.

I know what you mean, but I think it's funny that some people still refer to Whiteside as some sort of draft steal.

One or both will be dealt imo. This year more than any other, these 2nd round picks mean squat!

So in a deep draft 2nd rounders are worth less?!?

Help me understand that logic.

Agreed, this year in particular the extra depth is going to trickle down into second round

It sucks that Crowder measured out under 6'4. If he was 6'5, even, I think he could play the 3 because he's so strong. But if he's 6'3.75 and he has to guard 6'8 or 6'9 guys every night (Carmelo, Pierce, Deng, Lebron, Iguodala, Granger/George, Marvin Williams are all that tall. Only Orlando's 3 is in the 6'5-6'6 range, of the 8 starting 3's in the playoffs).

I love his potential as a role player who does everything well, is a factor on D and can hit a corner 3, but I liked it a lot better as a 3 than as a 2.

That said, he finished 3rd out of 60 players in the agility drill, surrounded at the top by point guards, and he currently weight 242 pounds. If a team thinks he can get down 15-20 pounds and get even faster (presumably he was around 240 because at Marquette he had to guard the 4's) and his 3 pt shooting (identical to Barnes, 35 one year, 36 the next) and upwards trending FT% mean he can stick a corner 3, I'd still be interested in him as a 2 guard.
Where's the D?

Oh yeah. I would also like to get a mid-first to take a look at Quincy Miller. I'd deal Ed for him if I could.

I'd also combine the 2 second rounders for a guy like Moultrie, Wroten and Fournier if possible.

Couldn't agree more. That's why he's a pick we absolutely have to make one way or the other. He's got a lot of potential. Just needs to work on the jumpshot and defense a bit so I would love to nab him and stash him overseas.

Hopefully Ed Davis is enough.

I haven't either. He's eligible, but right now he's just been added to his ACB team's roster (Caja Laboral) for the playoffs (he was on loan to Tarragona, where they just completed a sweep to win a relegation battle). After that he'll be headed to the Olympic training camp.

From a Raps POV it would be ideal if he declares now, because he'd likely fly under the radar and we'd probably be able to snag him with one of our 2nd rounders, but that could be the very reason that he doesn't declare now -- he could definitely improve his stock after getting a shot at more exposure in the ACB and Olympics this year. He is just 19 now after all.

Oh okay. I didn't know he was playing in the Olympics. He probably won't declare this year then.
