The reality is that nobody knows if Lowry will re-sign here. Possibly not even Masai. Talk is just talk. I would think that Raptors fans would be well aware that there is always a good possibility of a free agent bolting. Personally(and my opinion matters as little as the next person's) I think Lowry is going to go where the money is whether that's here or somewhere else.

If we want to actually rebuild, then Lowry will never let our team be bad enough to get a high pick. It all depends on if Masai thinks he can build a solid team with our current talent. If that is the case, then we need some bench depth and solid starting PF. An upgrade over Vasquez would be nice too.

I don't mind signing him to a 4 year deal which declines yearly and averages out to about 9 million a year. I would probably put incentives in the agreement as well that could pay him out more such as making the All-Star Game, playing a certain amount of minutes etc.

True, but I think that if the money is similar he would stay because:

-the team is young and on the rise
-he's positioned himself as the leader, seems like he relishes this role
-has a big role on the team, especially on offence
-likes his teammates
-seems to have a good relationship with the coaches and FO; probably wants some stability on the court
-close enough to Philly

I can see him getting $10-12 million/yr. I think they should try to keep him.

There's obviously the possibility he stays, but I wouldn't say it's better than 50/50. Things are going great now, but it hasn't always been a stable situation for him in Toronto. Just the opposite. He's been benched and nearly traded, so he certainly has no reason to be loyal to the organization. If he can be re-signed, I think the above mentioned idea of trading Demar should be looked at. Whether it's for a starting power forward, or a top prospect.

Don't trade bosh. He likes Toronto and kept saying he wants to be our leader!

I know I know, its not the same situation. Its not like bosh suddenly started playing like an all star in his contract year.

I am not saying either trade or not trade. But most people here are quick to forget how things unfold in raptors land. I swear half the forum wanted him traded to not get burnt again. But suddenly, not even half a season of borderline all star play in a contract year we are already talking figures and that its a no brained to resign such a young, ffearless leader.

he wants to get paid next season. if he's that good, he should've shown it even before Gay. I say he regresses once he gets the moolah.

I definitely don't disagree, but as you pointed out we won't know how this unfolds until it does. One difference to me is the makeup of the team has 3 other players who have a lot to offer whereas when Bosh left we had literally nothing but a Soph in Derozan and a first round pick (Ed Davis). This time we have cap space, going to playoffs, bunch of young talent and not Colangelo while playing a defensive style of ball. Let's hope for the best.

We had an even better situation years before with T-Mac. That didn't stop him from walking. Not saying Lowry will leave, but there is no indication to say he won't.

T-Mac was offered the MLE, didn't want to play in Vince's shadow, and there was still that stigma with Toronto that has finally started to leave this franchise. People really do act as though we threw the max at T-Mac. We didn't. We had no intention to keep him nor did he to stay.

He didn't have to say that. That he did is a positive. The more positive quote for me was that he sees this being a very good team in a couple years. That indicates he recognizes there is good talent to build with and plenty of picks/cap flexibility going forward.

None of this assures anything, but it's more positive that he said it, no?
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

This is a tough situation because of the way his game has jumped in a contract year. I know he put lot's of work into his game in the summer, but I mean this is the year where he can either make your average salary or get a big contract. He certainly is playing like he deserves a pay increase but what if he would like to explore the market. Is there any rush of trying to sign him to a new contract early or would it be wise of Masai to just let it ride out until the trade deadline?

I feel like some of the American media would see these comments and take them as, "Lowry wants out. Says Toronto smells bad."

First team to call offering a Big Mac meal with large fries for Demar can take him

Who am I kidding, no one is going to offer large fries.

Make it small fries and you got a deal

You guys won't like the contract he's given when he re-signs with us. I predict it will be about 2-3 million a year more than people project. The question is whether Lowry can maintain his current level of play for at least 75% of the duration of his contract.

I wonder if he would say the same thing when the Lakers offer him the moon this off-season.

Do the Lakers really want to do that? If I were a Laker fan I'd rather offer him something more sensible, after the debacle of the past few years of overspending and not winning. The Lakers are not ready to contend yet, why would they start throwing money around?
