Nik Stauskas confirms team Canada participation this summer. Should definitely be in contention for a starting position

Nice, that's huge!

I've been wondering what happened there. I didn't see any of their games, so I'm not sure what was going on, but it seemed like he started the season as the backup PG, getting about 15-20 minutes a game, and then mid-season basically stopped getting playing time altogether.

Yeah, I just hope its true. Last couple of summers hoopshype has had lots of tweets of guys being committed, and then they didn't end up playing.

I haven't seen any other sites with anything about Stauskas saying he was committed. If he really did make a statement, you would think it would have been picked up by someone else.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. His stats from the non-conference season were not good, and he only got garbage time minutes after that. Maybe he just lost the confidence of the coaches?

Braeden Anderson (Fresno) is also transferring. Its been quite a journey for him last few years - turns down Cal to take Kansas offer, has NCAA clearinghouse issues, ends up at Fresno, seriously injured in car accident, now this. I recall he was at Canada's big training camp the first summer Nash took over (2012?). I suspect he is barely on the radar now.

Awesome. That it comes from an AP writer gives this some credibility.

If we can get Wiggins, Stauskas, Olynyk, and C. Joseph we will be in very good shape. For me, those are the key guys, and while it would be nice to have the absolute best, the rest of the roster is largely interchangeable. The skill sets of those 4 are tough to replace though.

Agreed. If those four are in place we should be in good shape even if we only have a 50% participation rate from the other primary options.

Given that C. Joseph and Olynyk have been pretty committed in the past, i think having these four is looking very good (assuming the Chris Gent tweet about Stauskas is correct).

Actually it came from Andrew's mouth. Will add video if the team posts it.

Krawczynski saying Wiggins said he would play means it came from Krawczynski. If there is video of Wiggins saying it, that would be great.

Wolstat saying Stauskas confirmed his participation to Sun.

It was from a media session this morning. More than just Krawczynski have reported it. It wasn't some exclusive report that you have to worry about sources or anything like that)

If you listen to the interview, he says he's playing in August. Kind of a bummer if you're like me and have Pan Am tickets, which is in July. But we'll see. Maybe he'll play in that too.

Klomp,
Thanks for posting the link.

Wolstat tweeting that Wiggins, Stauskas, Powell, Bennett, and Ennis are all confirmed for August.
For Thompson and C. Joseph, may hinge on how early they sign contracts.

I haven't heard anything re Olynyk, Nicholson or Sacre, but, given their track record, I expect Olynyk and Nicholson to commit.

First off... This is really cool. Glad to see him get this offer.

Should be really interesting to see what happens next for him as he could start a massive trend going forward. Jamal either...

1) Takes the scholarship and goes to play for Duke. Standard.

2) Jamal says nope. Stays at AI, works on his body, and checks his draft stock after his next high school year. He then speaks to the NBA, evaluates his current stock (which has never been higher at this point), and if he is a lottery pick probably declares. If he doesn't, he just goes to Duke anyways.

Personally I think it would be way more interesting if he just went to Duke next year and had a chance to experiment a bit with the point guard position with a high level college team as it looks like they don't have a huge amount of options there. Plus they couldn't possibly recruit him to play SG as they just got Kennard, right? The whole situation is weird. Is Grayson a PG lol?

Well the last night of the NBA regular season was probably the best night all year for Canadian players. 6 different Canadians scored in double figures last night, and a couple of others had decent nights as well. Admittedly, many of those games were largely meaningless, as games at the end of the season often are. Still, it was nice to see. Here were some of the stat lines:

Kelly Olynyk - 16-5-2
Tyler Ennis - 11-3-8
Andrew Wiggins - 23-6-3
Andrew Nicholson - 18-9-1
Tristan Thompson - 12-8-2
Nik Stauskas - 14-5-5
Anthony Bennett - 9-9-2
Robert Sacre - 6-4-1

Hoopshype (Chris Gent) tweeting that Olynyk on board for the summer. I believe that brings the list of NBA guys reportedly committed for this summer to:

Olynyk
Powell
Bennett
Wiggins
Stauskas
Ennis

Hopefully C Joseph signs a new contract relatively early in the signing period and is able to commit.

I expect Tristan to unfortunately miss out because it could be a lengthy offseason with his agent getting him a deal.

I think Nicholson might be a free agent possibly? is his deal done? or is it a team option? but I see him playing. Olynyk confirmed today.

The qualifying tourney isn't until the end of August, so Joseph should be signed long before then. A player of his caliber gets signed before then as it's usually only guys holding out for money they won't get, or veteran minimum guys.

That's where Thomson comes into play. If his agent tries and fails to get him a high-end starting players salary, is he the kind of guy to wait that long and come up empty on even a decent contract? Or does he get more sensible towards the end of July and take a more realistic offer?
