For guy his age that is extremely slow... I mean the lane was wide open, at his age that should be three steps and dunk or facial... Mozgov who is older and same size was dunking on guys every time he got those type of pick and roll situations....

I like this move from him. At least now he's using this move more often, he pretty much the same shot when the game just started.

Not super related to the clip at hand, but his mobility (while it has looked better this game) relative to Mozgov/Javtokas/Poeltl is noticeably worse. It's not a good sign. Considering it was better than either of the first two when he was younger.

Okay there are 2 options here - either you are hating on him on purpose or you're dumb. Take a second look at that gif, JV slowed down in order to receive the ball to not get intercepted and once he received it he rolled to the hoop.

giving him max would be a mistake. His athleticism will just get worse over time. He doesn't have Marc Gasol type skills either so he can't compensate for his lack of athleticism.

Plus it would be far harder to give the ball to Jonas, since a big guy would be right in front of Jonas.

I really had high hopes for Jonas 2 years ago. I never thought he'd be this low iq, blob player he's become. I held out hope this offseason that he was going to improve but "I find your lack of faith disturbing"

Not sure he's a low IQ blob. Yet.

There's been a minor improvement in his body this offseason as he's moving a bit more fluidly, but that's about the only change I see so far. Maybe he's taking more jumpers, but still after pumpfakes or from the post. It's only one game though, so we'll have to wait and see.

But his awareness defensively is still the same (reluctant to leave the paint/giving up open jumpers), as is his awareness offensively (not taking open baseline when available).

Actually, pre-injury Javtokas had better lift than Jonas ever had.

Another observation: so far, Jonas hasn't been looking to pass the ball to his teammates. No visible improvement in court awarness and ball distribution yet.

True. but that was pre-injury Javtokas. I mean, when Jonas was 19 and playing for the national team alongside Javtokas, Jonas looked significantly more mobile. Nowadays it's like they've reversed. At least in this game, Javtokas has looked the younger of the two players. And this is post-injury Javtokas.

Pre-motorcycle-accident Javtokas might be the greatest basketball athlete Lithuania has ever had :-)

Slowed down?? that is his natural speed... Anyway you look at that play the guy is extremely slow, run that same play for Mozgov and that play would result in Dunk 80% of the time.

looks like he's practicing what he'd do if the ball hadn't been tipped away. Power dribble toward rim, then flail for foul
