You can basically run an offense through Gasol. He facilitates well and is elite at reading and reacting to defenses. He is a HUGE upgrade over JV.

We are going all in folks!

and the benefit of giving up Delon is more playing time for McCaw/Powell

We have a very thin squad now so I expect there to be more pickups in the next month on the buyout market, so it will be easier to evaluate in a few weeks.

Ummm. YOU realize that we would have lost Delon for nothing as we would not have matched any offer...Cj has not produced anything for us..
Gasol can provide playmaking and wont have as burden on Offense...

If Derozan thinks they did him dirty.........look at JV's situation now & be thankful.
This is some spin. he battled and gave so much to the Raptors for charity?

He was getting overpaid at 17 mil a season for a limited bench role. It's not like he was making a low amount and overperforming. He wasn't.

Were talking 34 rear old gasol. People are talking as if this was 3 years ago. He's shooting 44% this year. Last year he shot 42%. He's not the same layer he used to me. People get so caught up in a name that they fail to be rational.

Like others have said in order for this trade to be worth it gasol defense has to be amazing because that's really the only positive he's bringing right now over jv. If his defense is only average then it was a poittless trade. Jv averages about the same amount of boards in more than 10 less minutes. He's scores way more efficiently. Also, ibaka who has bested all season now has a dminished role? You can't run the offense through gsol anymore, that's why he's shooting less and also taking more 3s.but his 3 point shooting isn't even elite.

Also fvv is gonna hvve to play out of his mind the rest of the way. If nick nurse couldn't get the roster he had to click Idk how this is gpnna be any easier for him. Again, if this was marc gasol from at least 3 years ago I think it's great. This marc gasol though Idk. This isn't like the kawhi demar upgrade. Kawhi was bettee in every statistical categpory Essen tially and is younger. This one can go either way.

I find it odd how there was such an intense backlash for the demar trade when Tt was essentially a no brainer and yet this one people are acting like it's a similar no brainer with not as much backlash at all, when the player were getting back isn't nearly the upgrade kawhi was.

We will see how it goes. I personally think it was not a huge difference maker and I think JV is underrated. He always shows up in both the playoffs and against all-star bigs. At best it was an even trade.

I'm unhappy with the trade. Valanciunas has many more productive years ahead of him than Gasol.

Gasols passinf ability will be very helpful to a sometimes stagnant iso heavy offense however some people in this forum are acting like this is Prime Gasol from 4/5 years ago. His D has fallen off, he lacks aggressiveness (one thing JV had), he defers too much and the most worrisome to me is his lack of leadership. He folds when things get tough and likes to play the blame game.

He had issues with Joerge when he was head coach. I recall and injured ravaged grizzlies team fighting the spurs in the playoffs where Conley was taking on Parker and old man Carter was actually producing vs Kawhi and while the team was fighting tooth & nail Gasol shrunk into the shadows vs Tiaggo.

An aggressive, passionate Gasol is dangerous and elite but we haven’t seen that guys in years. Maybe a trade to the East & a contending team lights a fire but big questions remain about this talented big man.

I've been talking about this type of trade for a while, and even a while ago I thought it would be a bad idea - now when Gasol is even older, I think it's even more terrible. I do understand that we are trying to go all in, but I simply don't think Gasol is that guy. I've been watching him since he cracked the Spain's main team, so for like 15 years or so, and always thought that he is extremely overrated and his so called defensive prowess was mainly due to amazing defensive guards he had in Memphis.

I believe we gave up way, way, way too much for someone like Gasol.

Anyway, I hope that Gasol proves me wrong and is a beast for us, but until that happens I will maintain my opinion that it was a terrible trade.

Farewell JV, you will always be our giant. Stay strong in Memphis!

And best of luck to us, because we will need it.

Exactly my take. Such an underwhelming trade. The only thing gasol really does better than jv is pass and defend but itd arguable how good his defense will be now that he's older and slower. He can shoot 3s but not elite and is overall a leszefficient shooter. Also his passing is great isf we HD guys that could shoot but we consistently brick shots.

Add to that that jv was a big part of past playoff runs and was arguably our most important player Wh en demar and Kyle to a lesser extent were **** t he bed and Idk. Again if we gutted the team for a beast id hvve no problem with it but gasol is washed.

He's averaging 4.7 assists per game playing on an awful offensive team. DHO's with the big is a huge staple in our offense. Having a big that can do it all is a huge addition. He draws double teams and takes a lot of tough shots on that Memphis team. It's not far fetched to think his efficiency will improve playing with much better talent here.

That was short lived as I was refreshing hoping to find a story about us getting BEAL to fix the rest of the team's shooting problems but instead saw a trade that made absolutely NO SENSE! GASOL is an even worse scorer than JV and is much older!

Shooting percentages:
JV leads the team, Even better than Siakam! JV has 58% FG% 64% TS%
https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/TOR/2019.html#advanced::6
vs. Old man Gasol who shoots horrendously for a big man and has a very mediocre 3pt% @ 34%. Overall 44% FG% 54% TS% Gasol is f'ing number 8 on a **** Memphis team and HE IS A BIG MAN who should be much higher!
https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/MEM/2019.html#advanced::6

Now let's move on to PER, JV is a much better rebounder too and we need those extra crucial possessions in the playoffs!:

JV # 6 in the league with 24.88 vs OLD MAN GASOL # 32! in the league with 17.28
http://insider.espn.com/nba/hollinger/statistics/_/position/c

I'm a the only one who is not a fan of this trade? Gasol is a poor shooting big man! Yes he can pass but this team's biggest problem is shooting and scoring and we traded our best INTERIOR scorer. How the hell does this trade impact our scoring/offense issues?!

I was generally a fan of Masai but this move WREAKS OF DESPERATION based on other team moves. We did not address our main weakness of shooting with this trade at all. Wha'ts worse is we gave up our only length option at PG with Delon being shipped too. It felt like we saw other teams making a move that actually helped their teams and panicked to make this one. :noway: Very disappointed in Masai. Thought he was better than this. One thing he was able to accomplish was get rid of his original bad CJ signing, at least that's off the books. You think he would learn from trading players near or over 30. Signs of Carroll and CJ were both cunderwhelming. If Gasol gets hurt even before the playoffs begin that will be the biggest insult to injury but almost deserved for treating a 34 year old has been star as if he was 28.

I'm going to miss JV. He's a pro's pro and we'd have had him for one more year. But even at 34, Gasol is the better player. Compare their other advanced stats. The reason I don't like this trade is because Gasol doesn't really move the needle imo. He's a rental if he opts out. With or without him, we're not beating the Warriors.

I'll miss JV and Delon but I think Gasol can really help this team with such a unique skill-set for a center. Let's wait to see how the four spots on the roster are filled out. I would guess that Ibaka moves to the bench but I would think he could still play with Gasol on occasion. Ibaka will bolster the bench and giving CJ's minutes to OG, Norm, and McCaw will be an improvement.

Jv was a non factor that averages only 19mpg. We were able to beat elite teams like warriors or bucks without jv. Get over it JV fanboys.
