Some brands are flushable.

Example: https://www.cottonelle.com/en-us/products/cottonelle-flushable-wipes

The general consensus is that even if they're marketed as "flushable", they're really bad for for your plumbing and it will clog your pipes at some point if you keep using them. I've read this from plumbers so I think it's better not to use them.

I would imagine these brands would have faced lawsuits by now if they weren't flushable. I think you'll get a clog if you fill your toilet up with them, but that would happen with regular paper too.

For me, it wasn't worth taking the risk of having to call someone to unclog your pipes. I can't imagine that being very cheap. I just bought one of those cheap toilet seat bidets from amazon and stopped using wipes. It works really well for cleaning and you use a lot less toilet paper.

I bought this for reference. It was $40 before all the panic buying idiots. I would suggest you look into it.

The problem is the stuff too. It's all junk in plastic packaging and packed full of processed chems

The city centres bring out stories too, I heard a guy pulled a gun out at Loblaws at queen and Portland for toilet paper

There was a loud altercation going on in the grocery store when I walked in on the weekend. I'm sure it was over something completely ridiculous (I didn't care enough to listen in). Probably two alphas fighting over the last can of beans.

Ok... enough of this foolishness. They aren't plastic and if you leave it overnight in the toilet it breaks down like toilet paper so you can imagine what happens elsewhere.

Yeah and all those stories about city sewers being clogged up by wipes, it's all just a conspiracy.

Go ahead and do whatever you want. It's not my house but good luck to you.

The problem is people throw non-flushable wipes down the toilet. Those are the ones that cause the clogs. If the problem was widespread, cities around the world would have sued these companies by now. Flushing a pack full of them is obviously going to cause problems, but one or two is fine. They're just wet paper.

From what I've read, it seems to be both causing issues.

It's not really just wet paper. It's much thicker, which means it breaks down a lot slower. Paper towels are just paper as well but you're not supposed to flush it down the toilet. Why? Because it's much thicker and won't dissolve in water as quickly or as easily as toilet paper.

Pretty much is a conspiracy I guess. Or you are behind the times and reading and believing junk. I mean.. you only have to go to their website. It's not my girlfriend but good luck to you.

It amazes me that this is even a thing with more than one person.

No toilet paper so next best thing is bidets I guess. They were readily available at multiple places before all this panic happened.

Yep and the earth being round is a conspiracy too.

Perhaps plumbers warning people against using wipes is because they're tired of making so much money?

I was interested so I did some searching around on Amazon (I thought they only had the toilet seat versions in Japan/Korea). Most models are sold out or low stock. I guess people are now hoarding these too lol.

They're expensive as hell (most of the cheaper models are $300-400), but maybe a good investment considering how much you spend on toilet paper in a year (not sure how long they last). I'll give it some thought after this blows over.

The one I linked to is only $40. There are others that are similar. It's basic in that it doesn't have a heated seat or hot water or some of the other fancier functions that the more expensive ones do but it does the job and a good way to test if you will like it. It's a lot easier to hookup since you just need to split your existing plumbing going into your toilet instead of needing an electrical outlet. Most people won't care about needing hot water. Your bum doesn't really need it but of course, it may feel nicer.

Try it out once they go back in stock. I'm guessing you'll prefer it to using toilet paper and wipes.

If you actually like it, you can either get the more expensive seats or go full on toilets but they are pretty pricey.

A lot of people who are buying all these goods don't realize they are harming the economy.

It just sold out recently, I was looking at it too. My buddy from university uses it, he tells me it makes tp expendable.

As a whole species humans might be advanced relative to other life forms on the planet, but I seriously believe a vast portion of humans aren't survivors. Namely if there was an actual zombie apocolyse for example, probably the majority of people would be zombies in under a few months because they don't have enough survival skills and common sense to survive long term.

I mean watching many people behaving in a panic over a relatively at best moderate threat that isn't even close to being a world ending event makes me wonder how these people would behave if there was an actual world ending event happening?

He's right though. When you have more to think about but yourself, it would be irresponsible not to stock up.

I notice the only ones saying I'm panicking are the single people or people who still live at home.

You think it's crazy to do whatever it takes to protect your family?

It means I'm an alpha male. I will walk over betas and not think twice.

It means you're self-centered, panicking , and not brave at all, if you ask me. But you pretend you're all that and that hoarding a year of pasta and ass wipe is necessary, and flex in the mirror to yourself.

And do your wife a favour and buy some cottonelle wipes for yourself.

it's right on the container.

Hold up. The world is shutting down around us due to a highly contagious disease and you calling out someone who wants to make sure his family is stocked up with supplies if he goes out of commission.

I have friends who share the same logic as you. They complain about how their mom's, who they live with, are panicking and stocking up. Some people don't have the luxury to depend on others.

I'm glad it steered in this direction. I didn't know I needed a bidet toilet seat until I read this thread. I'm actually going to buy one.
