The general consensus is that even if they're marketed as "flushable", they're really bad for for your plumbing and it will clog your pipes at some point if you keep using them. I've read this from plumbers so I think it's better not to use them.

I would imagine these brands would have faced lawsuits by now if they weren't flushable. I think you'll get a clog if you fill your toilet up with them, but that would happen with regular paper too.

For me, it wasn't worth taking the risk of having to call someone to unclog your pipes. I can't imagine that being very cheap. I just bought one of those cheap toilet seat bidets from amazon and stopped using wipes. It works really well for cleaning and you use a lot less toilet paper.

I bought this for reference. It was $40 before all the panic buying idiots. I would suggest you look into it.

Washington state and italy are examples of places that were panic buying and now the selves are full 2 weeks later it was be the same in canada. There's just not enough trucks to supply the hoarders and in a few weeks no ones gonna need anything

The problem is the stuff too. It's all junk in plastic packaging and packed full of processed chems

The city centres bring out stories too, I heard a guy pulled a gun out at Loblaws at queen and Portland for toilet paper

There was a loud altercation going on in the grocery store when I walked in on the weekend. I'm sure it was over something completely ridiculous (I didn't care enough to listen in). Probably two alphas fighting over the last can of beans.

The problem is people throw non-flushable wipes down the toilet. Those are the ones that cause the clogs. If the problem was widespread, cities around the world would have sued these companies by now. Flushing a pack full of them is obviously going to cause problems, but one or two is fine. They're just wet paper.

From what I've read, it seems to be both causing issues.

It's not really just wet paper. It's much thicker, which means it breaks down a lot slower. Paper towels are just paper as well but you're not supposed to flush it down the toilet. Why? Because it's much thicker and won't dissolve in water as quickly or as easily as toilet paper.

I was interested so I did some searching around on Amazon (I thought they only had the toilet seat versions in Japan/Korea). Most models are sold out or low stock. I guess people are now hoarding these too lol.

The one I linked to is only $40. There are others that are similar. It's basic in that it doesn't have a heated seat or hot water or some of the other fancier functions that the more expensive ones do but it does the job and a good way to test if you will like it. It's a lot easier to hookup since you just need to split your existing plumbing going into your toilet instead of needing an electrical outlet. Most people won't care about needing hot water. Your bum doesn't really need it but of course, it may feel nicer.

Try it out once they go back in stock. I'm guessing you'll prefer it to using toilet paper and wipes.

If you actually like it, you can either get the more expensive seats or go full on toilets but they are pretty pricey.

It just sold out recently, I was looking at it too. My buddy from university uses it, he tells me it makes tp expendable.

This is more than enough evidence that even though we consider ourselves "advanced" as a species, a few rumours and a little bit of fake news brings the majority of us to complete sheep-like behaviour.

As a whole species humans might be advanced relative to other life forms on the planet, but I seriously believe a vast portion of humans aren't survivors. Namely if there was an actual zombie apocolyse for example, probably the majority of people would be zombies in under a few months because they don't have enough survival skills and common sense to survive long term.

I mean watching many people behaving in a panic over a relatively at best moderate threat that isn't even close to being a world ending event makes me wonder how these people would behave if there was an actual world ending event happening?

It's stupid not to stock up. A real man will spend at least a few hundred dollars to protect his family. My worst case scenario is I'm down a grand or so while others worst case scenario is hunger/death. I'm also prepped for any social unrest. IMO, I'd rather be prepped to ensure the survival of my family even if the possibility were low for it to come to that.
