I know this is from a few days ago but are we watching the same video here? He ran shooters off the 3pt line twice, both times they were directed into 2 other defenders, it resulted in a turnover the 1st time and denied the pass to an open corner 3 the second time.

Would you rather give up 6 points instead of 2 in that sequence? Sheesh

Better to close out under control rather than out of control. That way you still discourage or prevent the 3, but not give up the blow by.

He has trouble keeping any player in front of him in any case.

You're not going to be able to both prevent the 3 and single-handedly stop a guard from attacking the closeout. That's why the Raptors favour hard closeouts and scrambling, it's what we've done for years under Nurse. Boucher is one of the best bigs you'll find at doing that. An old school big like Valanciunas would have had his butt planted in the paint on both those plays, and we would have given up two open 3s.

This is a video of 1 unambiguously good result from a hard closeout, and 1 so-so result (contested layup). To look at this and say you're "speechless" or it's "two of the worst defensive plays you'll see" is being an absurd hater.

It's so stupid that Raptors fans have this narrative of "you can't just read advanced stats that say Boucher has great defensive impact, you have to watch the games". And then they post videos of effective defense and completely misidentify what they're looking at.

Raptors that have played at least 50 minutes, ranked by 538's "Overall RAPTOR" defense:

^ just to be clear, I don't think this is the final word on these players' defense. There are sample size problems. These numbers will shift as the season goes on (as it always does). But the argument that Boucher has played ineffective defense so far this year is just kind of...stupid. Look at the @#$% scoreboard.

His role is to play well enough to be part of a trade package for a decent piece later this year.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Missed the first half but before he unfortunately got hurt vs Detroit tonight he had a horrible bricked 3 followed immediately by a dumb closeout foul giving up a 3 shot foul.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

My hatred for this guy is getting closer and closer to McCaw/Baynes level with every stupid ish he does.

You can tell he doesn't play to win, he's clearly playing for stats to get a payday.
We should ship him out ASAP! How is this guy 28 and making mistakes a rookie Barnes don't?

I dunno how he did so well last year but he's always biting on pump fakes and as soon as he gets the ball he is shooting and never looks to pass. Most of our guys tunnel vision but he takes the cake. I bet Nick Nurse hates Boucher so much and can't wait till he's gone lol

He has to be the lowest IQ player along with oubre.
just truly terrible shot selection and he rarely makes the extra pass.

The future didn't look very bright for 19-year-old Chris Boucher.

He was earning less than $10 an hour as a part-time cook and dishwasher at a St-Hubert restaurant in Montreal. He had dropped out of high school when he was 16.
