His inability to get to the rim in general is a concern. He’s been having success with his short push shots and half hooks off his post-ups but I can’t recall him just driving on his man and finishing with a layup.
Been saying it for the entire season, people just kept telling me about his stationary work out results while ignoring his actual athleticism on the court.
He doesn't have a quick first step, never blows by anyone, etc etc. There's some serious limitations that he has, it was a miracle he was playing so well despite those falws.
That's some BS you are spewing. The fact that he was playing well when given the opportunity to be more than 4th/5th option means he has clear strengths that is greater than sum of his weaknesses. To say it was a miracle he was playing so well despite his flaws is purely asinine.
A real concern is that we are only 2 seasons removed from watching a guy like Kawhi Leonard help carry us to a championship and some "fans" are spewing this garbage. He wasn't necessarily the most athletic guy in terms of jumping out the gym nor was he routinely blowing by people with athleticism but he was so effective and efficient because he knew how to get to the spot he wanted to get to and make plays that he wanted to make when he wanted to make it. That's something Scottie Barnes can learn to do eventually as he shows signs of being able to do it. Dude's only 20 years old, he does have abundance of talent that you'd be blind to not see, shows willingness to put in the work, and we have number of examples of players on our teams of past and present that have made jumps that people at the time did not think they would make. So excuse me for thinking your "concern" isn't much of one because there isn't only one way to be a superstar and he has enough talent that he can take the steps to legit try and become one if he puts in the work as he's already playing way above expectation well ahead of schedule.
The real concern is that he's clearly still adapting/learning to play a new role than what he used to play earlier in the season and hopefully he gets there soon without going through too much of a down period but at the same time, he needs to learn to pick his spots and not grow passive so he can pick it up when opportunity inevitably comes.
